If, for instance,I claim to be able to read minds, but say I have no intention of demonstrating my power because I consider it beneath me to do so, how could you prove that I can't read minds? The answer is you can't! It would be up to me to prove I could, and until I do prove that I can do it you can take it for granted that I can't. If I didn't want to demonstrate my power, or want anyone to even know I had it, then I would just say nothing about it. I wouldn't go around telling everyone I could do it but refuse to demonstrate it because I know everyone would correctly think me to be either a dim-wit or a liar, or both. |
