What I Think

Ever since I was little and saw that Matilda movie I always wished I could do the things she did. But somehow no argument even makes me consider telekinesis to be true. I mean, sure your brain can send messages to parts of your body and tell them to move. You can tell your arm to move and it'll move because of the connecting nerves and whatnot. But how can you levitate a pencil when your brain is not connected to objects in any way? This argument alone cannot be denied. Keith's explanations are definitely the most sensible I've come across regarding this "phenomenon".It also strikes me that no one is claiming the million dollar reward, as many people on this board have pointed out. Well, tell me what you think.

RE: What I Think

Have you read about JB Rhine's research with dice rolling? A young gambler came to him professing that he had good luck with dice, and thought he could affect them with his mind (micro-pk). A physicist created a machine that on activation shook the dice, rolled them and took a photo of the result without showing anybody anything. Some of the tests revealed results with huge odds against chance, although when the machine was completed so it started randomly, results were always according to chance. A statistitian once famously said, "If Rhine's work is to be attacked it must be on grounds other than statistics." He had gone through all the results and checked the probabilities of all of them. Of course that isn't definite proof, but something is causing that bias.

RE: What I Think

Do you have a link to the site that describes in detail how the tests were carried out?
I would need to know a lot more about it before drawing any conclusions.

RE: What I Think

A few Google searches will lead you to a lot of information about JB Rhine. The quote given here about his results is paraphrased, and of course there is plenty of disagreement despite the view of this one particular mathematician. I'll let those who care go off and Google for it as I did if they actually care. In any case, it seems to me that the evidence is hardly overwhelming when we're on a message board where people claim to be able to levitate objects with their minds. Not to say it is worthless, but hardly immune to criticism as the quote would imply.

"but hardly immune to criticism as the quote would imply."

He didn't say that. He said that on statistical grounds, he could see no evidence of cheating. That does not mean that there weren't faults in the experiments, or mistakes made by the experimenter during the tests.

I read about this in a book, so I'll have a look to see what their references were. Perhaps I should have mentioned instead the PEAR studies with Random Event Generators (REGs) which are probably better tests anyway, and again I will check the references.
