Question from a bystander.

As i see it there are two distinct camps here clearly quite unable to resolve there differences that is two completely different and incompatible science pathways.

Let's call them 'The Newts' and the 'Paras'

The Newts (short for Newtonians) believe in The works of Newton, Einstein, Boyle, and all those who have bequeathed to us the subject of physics as well as all the formula which were then used by among others Brunel, Edison, Graham Bell, Nasa, Ford, and every company that ever given us by way of design anything from a pair of scales to a helicopter as well as many other things including medicine, public health, roads.

The 'paras' are those who believe in any/all of: TK, faked moon landings, Nostradamus, ghosts, fairies, deities, angels, alien abductions, alien visits, levitation, mediums,
myths, legends, hollywood, Star trek, voodoo, black magic, curses and finaly the flat earth society. (apologies to all the others I have missed). the paras have given us video's, testimonials, anectdotal evidence, hearsay, romour, gossip, personal opinions, photographs, lots of books to buy, video's to rent, and web-sites to visit.

So (and I suspect many of you could see this coming) apart from the books, videos photoraphs,
and web-sites what HAVE the paras ever given us?.

My grateful thanks is extended to the python team for greatly enhancing my mis-spent youth.

RE: Question from a bystander.

They've pointed us in some interesting new directions.
Take lucid dreaming for example. It was considered to be cooky paranormal rubbish at one time.
Only relatively recently was it discovered (scientifically) to be genuine.

Yet, some of the knowledge and ideas of the 'old' lucid dreamers is fairly interesting and fun to try.
And if it wasn't for them, it may have been discovered yet another few centuries later.

Many would suggest that this doesn't apply, because lucid dreaming has no practical purpose.
There I would beg to differ. It's incredibly effective at destroying phobias and learning more about yourself.
Not to mention being damn fun :D

RE: Question from a bystander.

It was ONLY when the English stopped burning people at the stake for witchcraft that real science evolved don't believe me? go and do the research, you'll see as I did there was a big bang in physics within a generation.
1735 Witchcradt Act George II de-criminalising witchcraft. The start of the industrial revolution is variously put at 1740 - 1780
(c1740 first use of shuttle by weavers).

I know this is a bit off thread Keith It's just something I just damn well wanted to say.

Look also at the Vatican's part in attempting to stiffle Science it the same. This is being repeated today by (some) sections of the Muslim world (e.g.Taliban).

Before then the Para's ruled now it's our turn
Just be damned thankful we are more civilised
we wouldn't burn you at the stake you are more use to us as a source of comedy.

By the way I DON't like you lot calling these idiots 'Paras' that has a special meaning to me,

How about a new Word

Paragormles ? like between paranormal and gormless - but pronounced para-gormulls?
Any votes in favour

i think you are all being unfair when you cant win an argument you use insults this shows you are wrong as you are hiding behind derision.

RE: Question from a bystander.

Hiding behind derision is hardly proof that the person doing so is wrong. They might just be refusing to argue.

RE: Question from a bystander.

Starman,
You say we can't win our argument.
You are very confused about all this aren't you.
Let me explain.
We do not have a single thing to prove, we are not making extraorinary claims.
You are the ones making outrageous claims, it is up to you to prove it.
All you have to do is stop talking non stop about what you can and instead just do it.
Oh, I forgot. You can't do it when someone who doubts your amazing abilities is watching.
In other words you have nothing whatsoever to back up your daft claims.
And you think that sensible people are going to take your word for it that you have amazing paranormal powers?
Get real for christ's sake.

RE: Question from a bystander.

Ex-RSM McWilliams, surely you can find a less insulting name? How about the scientific community's nomenclature? Believers = 'sheep', sceptics = 'goats'. Ahh, that's much more pleasant. :)
