1)Yes, I think we all admit we don't know for certain. 2)The existence of something is not dependent on whether we want it to or not, unless you are talking about creating things. TK either exists or it dosen't. :)

RE: ALL OF YOU

Woodpecker,
What exactly is it that you don't know for certain?

RE: ALL OF YOU

We don't know for certain whether TK exists or not. All we have is opinions. We'll never know for sure until someone out there goes and proves it.

I worded my reply carefully, because Newton's laws still applied even before he had discovered them.

RE: ALL OF YOU

Of course, that is not intended to be read as grounds for belief that it does - just because we don't know doesn't mean that TK exists by default. That would indeed be a foolish interpretation of my comment.

RE: ALL OF YOU

Woodpecker,

If I understand you correctly you are saying that we will never know for sure if TK exists until it has been demonstrated to exist. We can't of course prove a thing does not exist!

The following is not directed at you Woodpecker, but at the many TK supporters who put forward that argument as a solid reason to believe.
The result of this strange and illogical way of thinking is to suggest that I can therefore adopt one of only two positions, according to the supporters of TK, which are...
i) It may exist as it hasn't been proven not to.
ii) It does exist and I am too dumb to recognise this rather obvious fact.

This inability to prove a thing does not exist (try proving that my claim to walk on water is wrong) must therefore mean that (it) does/may/must exist is one that I confess to finding very odd indeed.

I take the view that in order to believe a thing I need a good reason for doing so, not a good reason for not believing, for if I take this view I would need a good reason for not believing every crackpot's hair-brained idea ever postulated, and that would surely result in my descent into madness.

I think this is a major problem today as too many people believe in too many idiotic concepts/conspiracies/cover-ups etc. (the curse of the www) and challenge the rest of us to prove them wrong.
They seem to fail to realise that the burden of proof rests with those making the claim.

"all i can say is remember when the earth was flat."

Are you kidding me? first of all, the earth was never flat. Secondly everyone who thought the earth was flat has been dead for hundreds of years. Thirdly those people must not have paid much attention to mountains.

RE: ALL OF YOU

.. or the sky.. or the sea..

I found an amusing flat earth site the other day, which argues that water always finds a flat level. So if the earth is round, then the water would have flat edges around the earth, and that can't work.

Wow you can get some stupid people out there.

RE: ALL OF YOU

I think the point the Ausie gent was trying to make is yea a long time ago people thought the earth was flat and yea they were proved wrong werent they... not saying of course that all of the skeptics out there are going to be proved wrong if anything I am the biggest skeptic. Yet 1000 everyone knew the earth was the center of the universe, 500 years ago everyone knew the earth was flat, and now everyone knows that TK is a load of bull****. But who knows...

RE: ALL OF YOU

It is certainly true that we need to be very careful before making any statements that challenge existing theories.
Because of that when someone comes along and says they have TK we don't all immediately rush into print with this startling new information, instead we sensibly and calmly ask for proof first.
That is why I can say TK does not exist, it has never been proven.

RE: ALL OF YOU

I find the hollow earth theory more interesting though.
Aliens live inside the earth, and flying saucers emerge from the holes at the earth's poles.
Naturally :P

RE: ALL OF YOU

Yes, Placebo, I agree, that makes a lot of sense. I wonder if the energy emitted by the flying saucers disturbs the space time continuum enough to create a force that results in TK?
I will test it with a piece of string, sellotape and a jam jar lid tonight.

RE: ALL OF YOU

It won't help, the aliens have designed a brainwave field that prevents you from detecting the effects
They're very sneaky, these guys.

(Hey, a bit more rubbish like this, and I could start a book like David Ike)
