Moving Glasses....

The mentalist Robert Channing came to my college and performed some pretty interesting things regarding ESP...

At the end of his performance, he claimed it to be "35% ESP, 35% Showmanship, and 30% just dumb luck."

In this show he managed to:
-Move a pair of dark-rimmed glasses without any visible aid (he actually flipped them upside down)
- Identify objects brought up on stage completely and accurately without any use of touch or sight (blind-folded).
- know the denomination of a random $5 from the audience, and "read" the serial number of the bill perfectly (all while blindfolded)
- Guess some other pretty intense and deep things about people's pasts...

Google his name, you'll find some reports from colleges describing his act in full.

Basically, I want to know what anyone thinks about these things... how is what I saw possible without the aid of extra-sensory perception??

I'm not advocating that it's real or not, but I really am trying to find out the truth, and so far all of my research into the academic world of parapsychology has led me to realize it's unproven.

But nobody has discussed the things he has done!

Ciao for now

RE: Moving Glasses....

Here's the thing, TK is real. Plain and simple...
It's been performed under test conditions, unlike what keith says and it is proven to be real in most universities around the world.

RE: Moving Glasses....

But that's the problem, it hasn't been. At least, not laboratory controls that are replicable by other experimenters and that get the same positive results. I have been researching this over the past month and a half, going into most major Psychology journals, and reading the opinions on all sides of the issue.

The problem I am having is that nobody is responding to exactly what I saw. They instead comment on the fact that while there have been a handful of "positive" PK tests (Psychokinesis) regarding the toss of dice or landing of a spun coin or drop of a number of cubes, they have yet to be replicated with similar results. That's the whole idea of scientific research, something that can be proven again and again under the same conditions.

So I suppose I should ask a different question... does anyone have any alternative idea, other than TK/PK and ESP that could explain what I witnessed? And could you perhaps point me in the direction of a scholarly source?

Nick why can't you see the blindingly obvious? If TK had ever been proven to be real we would not be having this discussion.

End of argument!

Keith, you didn't address any of my questions...

I don't have any obligation to respond to your questions, or those of anyone else.
I consider your comments to be not worth answering.
If you want to believe in that horse manure that is your choice.

RE: Moving Glasses....

Oy vey. I posted those because I am skeptical of what I saw, not because I believe in it. I wanted to hear your possible explanations for them, as you seem to have some of the other tricks figured out.

And of course, you're not obligated to answer them. However, I thought I'd give you the chance to further convince those who do believe that they hold false beliefs.

RE: Moving Glasses....

The thing is all those stage tricks you mention have been done many many times by many people, they are just stage tricks and not worth treating as though they were any sort of demonstration of the paranormal.
You may as well ask me to explain how David Copperfield can make a train disappear, it has no relevance, its just an illusion.

RE: Moving Glasses....

well, exactly how did these "Tricks" be done?

Go on psipog.net you'll get a tubload of info that will help out.

Keith cant admit theres Psychic and paranormal events no matter how much proof is put in his throat

RE: Moving Glasses....

Nick, stop being foolish yet again.
Stage magicians have performed mind reading, clairvoyance, levitation, disappearance, and anything else you can imagine. All done by clever, but ordinary, stage tricks.
If you you think any of those those illusions and tricks are proof of anything paranormal then we all can only pray that you never get to serve on a jury.
By all means make a point, but to argue about stage tricks proving TK is just plain ludicrous.
Have any more 'proof' of TK do you?
If it had EVER been proven, TK would be a fact and we would all know about it, like gravity or magnetism for example.
As it is only the simple minded and school kids believe it.
Grow up and try acting like someone with intelligence and try giving some actual evidence of TK.
I will not hold my breath......

Me? Grow up? Look at your language use...In the past threads you seemed like a 5 year old.

What about the russians? The police? The russians did expirements during the past centuryt on this very subject. It was confirmed...
The police use psychic detectives pretty recently, a psychic detective around here was used to finish a case.

Please hold your breath, proof is only about 2 seconds away.

But i must admit, you have made good points against TK but have failed.

You are an intellectual, why not go share the other paarts of your knowlegee with scientists?
I'm sure you could win an award for your achievments and theories from the other parts of the site.(not sarcasm)

RE: Moving Glasses....

Nick,
For the final time.
You say I have failed to disprove TK.
I have nothing to prove.
Those that claim to have TK are the ones that need to prove it for without proof their claims are nothing but empty talk.

I can walk on water, prove me wrong!
If you don't believe me then you need to open your mind. Sound familiar?

Stop whinging and supply the proof. Put up or shut up! Talk is easy.

RE: Moving Glasses....

Keith you are right.
If TK were real we WOULD all know about it and it would be taught in schools.
Its just a popular myth that is fed by those who genuinely think they have TK because they can move a psi wheel with the heat from their hands or because of air currents.
Its just kids playing around. When they grow up they will all realise how silly they have been, happens all the time.

RE: Moving Glasses....

Need to know, I think Robert Channing is something like Derren Brown, he listens to people's voices and then guesses a letter or number. This is probably the case because Derren Brown used this one with a program called: Messiah, dunno if you heard of it. He convinced a couple of "psychics" that he had remote-viewing.
That guy just proves that there's a logical explanation behind everything.
