There certainly is an odd assortment of characters on this site. Anyway, to the point. I watched a documentary about poltergeists today in which they note that many cases of alleged poltergeist hauntings are centered around young people (usually girls) that are around puberty. There is speculation that they are manifesting some sort of psychokinetic energy due to the stress and change of that period (no pun intended.) The doco I watched today was called `Interview With a Poltergeist` which is about the Enfield poltergeist in England in the late 70s. Now, I`m not sure what I think about this particular case. At some points it was convincing, in others it was absurd. At any rate, there are many documented cases of this type of phenomena that occur under similar circumstances. Many times there is a adolescent girl hitting puberty as well as some sort of stressful family drama (divorce, abuse, etc.) There is a lot of video evidence of things moving or sounds occuring without any apparent cause (see the documentary `Ghosts on Tape.` What do you all think about this? Is this evidence of at least the possibility of TK or is it just a series of clever hoaxes and overzealous paranormal experts? | Posted By: xeoncat Posted On: Nov 4, 2007 Views: 737 | RE: Poltergeists and TK? in parapsychology, poltergeist are called RSPK (recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis) and are extensivelly documented and studied (poltergeist is an obsolete designation, there are no otherworldly spirit-thingies involved). yes, many times, there are young people involved (the focus) and the effects usually disappear when puberty comes, or weeks before puberty comes. but there are other documents which refer full grown focus. The problem with RSPK relies in the fact that there are many hoaxes documented, making the phenomenological study very difficult. well, to tell you the truth the documentation of hoaxes is the one thing that hinders Parapsychology the most. |
