What if???????

Hey, you guys should check this video out. It raises many interesting questions. While the science behind it seems somewhat far-fetched today, the logic behind is suprisingly sound and this technology may well be possible sometime in the future. The guy is somewhat hard to understand but if you could do this to yourself would you? Let me know what you guys think. It is kind of scary that this type of technology seems to be on our fingertips and could actually be made available sometime.

RE: What if???????

Its an interesting concept, extending human life so that we can be healthy to age 120, 200. 500 etc.
I have no doubt it can, and will, be done, eventually. However, as always, it will only be available to the wealthy few, because let's face it, its going to cost a fortune.
Certainly we would all wish to remain healthy until we die, but how long would we would like to live? I think everyone would come up with a different age. It also depends if we could afford to put our family members on the same programme, if not, we would have to watch them all die. Hmmmm.

RE: What if???????

lol, This reminds of something I read in my chemistry textbook a while ago. It was about how people can sign up so that if they die from a freak accident, that the body can be preserved by freezing (or some sort of freezing, don't really remember) so that future technology could someday revive them.

Imagine that, signing up for this prgram, dying in a car accident, then in a hundred years you come back to life in some weird lab. I thought this was a very interesting concept and not as farfetched as it may seem at first. Do you really think it will be that long until we'll have the technology to be able to revive the human mind after it shuts down.

RE: What if???????

I think I would definetaly want to extend my life a few centuries if I could, just to see how the world developed and how our knewledge and techonology changed and such. I think a good number for me would be roughly a 1000 years, but I don't know maybe longer. It is really a tough question. If you could choose to live as long as you wanted would you live more millions of years? I don't know I have a feeling I'd get bored and see what is after this life; even if it is absolute nothingness, then at least I wouldn't know I had ceased to exist.

RE: What if???????

ya, its especially interesting if you don't believe in life after death, so then, you might as well live for as long as you can, even if its for millions of years because at least your still alive. Of course it would get very strange having all your ancestors die and you still being alive, the longer you live, you'll make friends and they'll all die around you and you'll have to keep making new ones. Alot of interesting scenerios could arise from living "forever".

RE: What if???????

I mean if you consider the genetic level, I guess you could say it does not matter if we live forever or not. Look at it this way, the whole point of reproduction is that in no point in history has DNA or the organisms that it creates been able to live forever, so it must continuouly reproduce itself to ensure that it keeps on existing. If cells/organims could live forever they would not reproduce. And so, at the genetic level it really doesn't matter whether we are born, reproduce, then die or are just born, then live forever, becuase all genes care about is existing and surviving and reproduction is only a means to ensure survival over a long period of time. But if we can live for a very long period (e.g. indefinitely) would it really matter? Of course, it seems that evolution would come to a grinding halt in our species since reproduction either end or greatly decrease if we developed a way to live for thousands or millions of years. This would be a problem becuase it is evolution that has led us to become this intelligent in the first place. So actually after considering that I think it is absolutely essential that we keep on reproducing and dieing so that we can continue to evolve and advance the capabilities, intelligence, and complexity of the human race. Well then again, of course maybe we could develop a way to do this without having to reproduce and could in effect evolve in ways that we choose. Ugh this is useless I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens!

RE: What if???????

lol yah, its pretty crazy stuff to think about. I was just wondering If you've read Keith's section on "Can we become Immortal" (i think thats what its called). If you haven't yet you should. He puts forward a scenario that I found very fascinating when I read it. Its about humans ultimate evoltuion and what that might be. Read it if you haven't already and tell me what you think, cause i thought it was pretty neat.

RE: What if???????

Provide empirical evidence, from accredited laboratories, with controls, with supporting formulas, and procedures, descriptions of the technology utilized and corresponding data and than maybe we can take your claims somewhat seriously re; people using 100% of their brains power. You Google topics on the net and believe them to be true? I doubt that is an example of a person that uses all of their brain. Any other response to this will be immediately discounted until you provide the above, not links, what I have instructed you to provide. Charlatan.
