Marc Alsup's twisted logic

You can almost guarantee that at some point in the discussion a person who supports TK, or even the possibility of TK, will introduce an argument that is in fact totally illogical, but to them it makes sense.
Marc Alsup introduced a classic, here it is, spot the flaw....

"Now please explain to me, after you writing this, you will still shut down anyone who opposes your thoughts? Here you say that a theory cannot be proven as absolute, yet it can be proven wrong. In a post you made much ealier on this thread about TK, you said TK cannot be proven wrong either. SO, if I am understanding correctly, you can not accurately throw it out there that anyone believing in TK is a fool because it has NOT BEEN PROVEN WRONG AS WELL AS NOT BEEN PROVEN TRUE."

Spot the flaw? Not difficult was it!
It is true that no matter how good a theory is, you cannot prove it is complete, at some point in the future it could be refined, or even replaced by a better theory, it could however be proved to be wrong if it is indeed wrong. A theory HAS to be capable of being proven wrong.
It is also correct to say that it is impossible to prove that TK does not exist, this should be obvious, you cannot prove a thing does not exist. For example, if I claim to be able to walk on water can you prove I can´t? The answer is no, obviously. Now here is the important part - pay attention Marc - the onus of proof rests with those making the claim. It would be up to me to prove I can walk on water, NOT up to you to prove I can´t, because you CANNOT prove I can´t. Got it now?

Back to Marc´s argument. He says "you can not accurately throw it out there that anyone believing in TK is a fool because it has NOT BEEN PROVEN WRONG AS WELL AS NOT BEEN PROVEN TRUE."

He is missing the point that no one has actually demonstrated TK and produced a theory explaining how it works. Without a working theory how on earth can anyone prove it to be wrong? You need a theory first before you can prove it wrong, Doh!
In his own twisted logic because TK has not been proven wrong then that is reason enough for him to believe it may exist. Amazing!
I wonder then, by using his own twisted logic, if Marc believes in Father Christmas, elves, goblins, the Loch Ness monster, fairies.... the mind boggles, because according to him if you cannot prove a thing does not exist you have to accept that it may. If however you say it doesn´t exist you have a closed mind! Lol! (How many times have we heard that one!) He doesn´t seem to grasp that ordinary, sensible, logical people need a REASON to believe in a thing, not a reason NOT to believe. People who make claims such as having an invisible elf on their shoulders are usually treated as being delusional, even though they cannot be proven wrong.

The funny thing is that he can see no flaw in his argument, it makes sense to him (incredible as it may seem to those who actually use logic)) and will no doubt come back and defend his stupid argument, like he always does. His ignorance knows no bounds.

RE: Marc Alsup's twisted logic

If Keith had a pound for every time some fool said "You can´t prove it doesn´t exist" and "You have a closed mind" he would be a millionaire.
What idiots!

RE: Marc Alsup's twisted logic

I agree with you Keith. This is something that crops up time and time again. It does not matter what the topic is, be it UFO´s, ghosts, mind reading, TK, etc. someone will use the argument that you cannot prove them wrong.
In my experience there is no point in continuing the discussion after that because you are dealing with the mentally challenged.
Love your site!

RE: Marc Alsup's twisted logic

What I dont get is, why this really boils u up inside so much Keith? I mean c'mon, whats really wrong?

Personally, I'm pretty sure its all bullsh*t aswell, but it doesn't seem to effect me as much.

You seem so hellbent on proving it doesn't exist but frankly I don't see the reason why your so desperate.

However, in order for life to really exist and continue to prosper, there must always be a variable, always be a contrasting opinion..

The quicker u realise that and accept it the better for yourself.

These internet arguement you tend to find always give me a laugh. Its shows that life is healthy i guess. That people are passionate.
