RE: Everybody Loves Raymond

I was at the store and ELR's coming out on DVD. Their advertisement is that it's "The TV Show Of Today's Generation".

My question is, WHOSE generation? Mine? I'm 28, and that show is NOT FOR ME. I asked my 15-year-old nephew, and it's not for HIS generation, if the laughter was any indication. My parents? Well, my dad thinks it's crap, and my mom doesn't understand why it's funny, but they're 60. Are they today's generation? It's all too confusing.

I don't think there is any one tv show that could claim to be that.

RE: Everybody Loves Raymond

Well, E.L.R. is one of the highest rated TV shows around (in fact, I think it's the #1 rated sitcom), so somebody is watching it.

RE: Everybody Loves Raymond

Raymond is a funny show if you know the premise.

It's in its last season this year, so it won't be around except as syndicated reruns before long, but I'll run down the show anyway.

Ray Romano plays Ray Barone, a 40-ish sports writer for New York Newsday. Like Ray Romano, Ray Barone is married and has a daughter and twin boys.

Ray Barone and his wife Debra (played by Patricia Heaton) live across the street from Ray's parents, Marie and Frank Barone. Marie is played by Doris Roberts, who used to play the Mildred, the secretary on Remington Steele, and Frank is played by the incomparable Peter Boyle, who needs no introduction.

Ray's embittered older brother Robert is played by Emmy-award-winning actor Brad Garrett, who is probably the funniest guy on the show. It's Robert's attitude toward Ray that gives the show its title.

What makes the show funny is that everyone on the show is insane to some degree. Debra is the most sane one, and is most frequently the foil for the lunacy that goes on. Each character has a specific and funny way of relating to each other character.

Robert is envious of all that Ray has, especially Ray's marriage to Debra, whom Robert adores. He also gripes about the favoritism shown to Ray by their parents, and delights in any misfortune that Ray encounters.

As I write this, I'm starting to realize that I'm in over my head. To describe all the hilarious dynamics of this show would take a ten-page term paper. Just go to the http://www.everybodylovesray.com website and read more about the show.

RE: Everybody Loves Raymond

what ever happend to showes like MASH and other cool showes that didn't need all this bull**** to keep them running, showes that could be all groups in one eppisode, like comedy and reality and stuff. Producers now are splitting them up and it sucks.

you just dont get it, do you drangonmasterbater. it's a smart comedy that's obviously WAY over your head. go back to reading your comics or playing D&D, or writing stupid posts to people who dislike you and are trying to avoid you.
