Mmh...

I've used a strategy guide a few times when I've gotten absolutely lost somewhere, or forgotten where I needed to be, because I haven't played a game in so long. Usually, I only use them to get special endings and stuff.

on most games, yes

I use a guide for almost every game. I dont use it for strategies or walkthroughs, though. I only use guides to find stuff like items, abilities, etc. that I may otherwise miss.

is there a strategy guide for Paladin's Quest? I collect the guides for rpg's and I am missing one for that game. and no, I do not mean this site it does not count as a players guide that I own and can read whenever. it is sad when you cant find a guide to your favorite game (ok second favorite, Final fantasy 4 is my real favorite). no offense to those of you who say paladins quest sucks, it does not. what DOES suck is multiplayer RPG's, remember the good old days when it was ONE HUMAN against the computer? now THOSE are rpgs. so, is there one out there for paladins quest?

Stragegy guide

I've always liked to read startegy guides written by others simply for the fun of it. It's always nice to know how others win that difficult battle.

hold on a second.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this site also considered to be a guide? So every time you visit this site for help on a game, you're still using a strategy guide. Didn't think of that, didja?

Every once in a while

Most of the time if i need help on a game i come here to find the information out but otherwise i will just play through it till i get stuck then i try to beat up my console because i can't beat that evil boss. If i have a guide handy it makes it a bit easier than getting on the comp and coming here.

for the treasures

I usually have a strategy by my side when i'm playing RPG's but mostly becuase i don't want to miss anything. rarely do i use them for boss fights or anything else. and then their also a nice resource for knowing what enemies havce good drops or steals.

Strategy Guides, heh

Hmm, I fit into a few of these categories, haha. When I was younger, I used to go through games full on with strategy guides. Now, my policy is that I won't ever use them for strategies on fights, and I'll only use them to get myself unstuck. But, I have to try and figure it out for a long while first. Of course, I'm also a shriner at RPGClassics here, so I fall into that category too. :P

Why buy guides when you have this site?

Yeesh, I don't even know why they make guides any more. I've never bought a guide, but I got a few for free in the past that I didn't even want. Never needed them except for finding a few secret things in Perfect Dark/Goldeneye 007.

But as for RPGs, I've never needed guides for 'em, possibly because I don't always look for all the extra stuff after beating the final boss. Getting to Mr. Big himself is easy pie for the most part, but dodging 200 Lightning Bolts?! I never get past 30! (FFX) Let's not forget the fact that most hidden stuff in RPGs is so well hidden that you NEED a guide or FAQ to find it, and by then you don't need it.

Only sometimes...

I only use a strategy guide after I played the game through at least once w/o the guide.

I really sometimes use the guides to look for all of the treasures in a game. I want to collect EVERYHING.

Most guides I read have some errors in them as well.

An example of this is the FF1 Guide for the NES.
In the overworld map, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 are reversed. Chapter 2 is the Sleeping Prince, and Chapter 3 is The Rotting Earth.
