| Posted By: Anna Posted On: Nov 13, 2007 Views: 2113 | Scoliosis help My 15 year old daughter has scoliosis, her curvature is currently at 47 degrees. Doctor suggested we wait another 6 months and if the curve progresses we should send her for surgery. I've read little bits & pieces of the Pettibon Body System, though I really am rather unfamiliar with it. We're in Chicago, IL-- can someone tell me if there are any Pettibone practitioners in my neck of the woods? We're desperate cause neither our daughter nor ourselves want her to go thru surgery for known risks involved. Can anyone/someone please help!! |

| Posted By: Christian Cohen, D.C. Posted On: May 8, 2006 Views: 1670 | Pettibon Treatment for Scoliosis I also use the Pettibon System in my clinic. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that it is a SYSTEM. Patients seen by a Pettibon doctor are prescribed more than one therapy. Wobble chair, cervical traction, fulcrums, weights, link exercise trainer are all different therapies within the system and will be prescribed in combination to each patient as their needs are assessed. | Posted By: Missy Allred P.T. Posted On: May 31, 2005 Views: 2941 | Pettibon Body Weighting System I have a 10-year-old son who used to have scoliosis. Jared did his exercises regularly. Yes, I had to bribe him sometimes, but he did them. He has had a 100% correction. Now he no longer has scoliosis! His chronic pain is gone, and his asthma symptoms are greatly reduced. I am a practicing physical therapist in an office where we use the Pettibon system. In my experience, the patients who do their rehab as instructed get great results. For the patients who are not getting the desired results, it is either because they are not doing thier rehab, or their doctor or physical therapist don't know what they're doing. As long as gravity works, the practitioner knows how to prescribe the weights and exercises, and the patient does the exercises, the weights will bring about the desired changes. Thanks to Dr. Mike Kunzler who diagnosed my son and introduced me to the Pettibon System, thanks to Dr. Pettibon who invented the Pettibon System, and thanks to my son, Jared, who did his rehab program regularly. Because of this combination, I now have a son who is healthy and happy and has a lifetime of opportunity ahead of him instead of a lifetime of bracing, weakness, pain, and possibly surgery. |
| Posted By: Mark W Morningstar, DC DAASP Posted On: Feb 14, 2005 Views: 3299 | Pettibon Weighting System I would like to echo the sentiments of Dr. Stitzel. It is important for all patients to know that the Pettibon System encompasses 2 levels of postgraduate education. First, the Pettibon Weighting System can be used for other problems than scoliosis, such as disc disorders, tension headaches, and chronic spinal pain. The goal of the system is to restore sagittal (from the side) alignment of the spine first. This procedure can therefore be used to treat problems associated with the loss of the normal sagittal contour. However, the scoliosis portion of education occurs after this initial training is completed. Therefore, when selcting a doctor who uses the Pettibon Weighting System, make sure they have taken the scoliosis portion of the curriculum. This system is highly comprehensive. As of last month, doctors using the Pettibon System can become Board Certified in this system through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Doctors can only become Board Certified after completing the Masters program in Neurospinal Biomechanics and practicing the system for 2 years. Therefore, please be cautious in selecting a doctor who has the scoliosis-specific training and background in the Pettibon Weighting System. Best Wishes, Mark W Morningstar, DC DAASP Director of Research, Pettibon Institute |
| Posted By: Dr. Clayton Stitzel Posted On: Feb 13, 2005 Views: 2749 | Pettibon Weigting System I use the Pettibon weighting system on scoliosis patients and non scoliosis patients alike in my clinic everyday of the week with tremedous results. In fact, I have yet to have a scoliosis patient whom didn't make significant progress using the weighting system. May I suggest that those patients who didn't see any curve improvement or even got worse had one of two problems. Poor patient compliance or an inexperienced doctor who did not follow the protocol accurately. Each scoliosis patient's weighting system MUST be verified through stress x ray comparisons with the patient wearing the wieghts and not wearing the weights. This is the only way to garantee soft tissue will adapt to imposed demands and produce the desired results. The weighting system works all the time, sometimes it is the doctor and/or patient whom aren't working. |
