Big Know-It-All-Know-Nothing

Sadly a lot of people don't use this as a Halloween idea, but as a way of life.

RE: Big Know-It-All-Know-Nothing

It IS a way of life. Why do people seem to like something for only a few weeks out of the year, an idea like the one with halloween is too good to use only once a year.

Halloween.

People need to grow up and see that there are many types of people. I may be a little crazy, and a bit goth, and slightly gay becouse I don't find most women attractive, but i am unique, all of us are. There is something wrong with a person who wants to be like everybody else. I WANT to be different than the guy next door, or what the "mass public" thinks is appropriate. I like the feel of halloween, the mood it gives me.

It's my time to morn the pass of a loved one (Oct 27), put the past year behined me, and getting over it through making kids happy by giving them candy.

Christmas isn't a happy time, how many of you look forward to getting in long lines to get presents you know will be Feb.'s trash? Or getting disapointed by not getting what you want, at a time your supposed to get it.

RE: Big Know-It-All-Know-Nothing

For a funny little story about trying out the Goth lifestyle, go to http://www.thislife.org and look up episode 118 (just search for the number in the "Search this site" form on the left side of the page).

The episode is entitled "What You Lookin' At," and it's stories about seeing and being seen. Act One is called "American Goth," and I can imagine that a Goth person would find it pretty amusing and insightful.

There's a link to a 90-minute uncut version of the show, but I don't know if that has any more stuff in it about the Goth story. The Goth story starts about nine minutes into it, so to avoid the prologue and intro, just scroll RealPlayer over to the 9-minute mark.

The music at the startup page is from one of the best goth movies of all time, The Nightmare before Christmas. Of course, anything by Tim Burton is, but this being the best.

Christmas isn't a time to get what you want, that's what your birthday is for. Christmas has a much deeper meaning for some of us, and it makes me sad that you don't see that. I don't even mean religion, I mean the spirit of Christmas. It ain't about getting what you want.

Besides, get used to it, that's REAL LIFE. "You can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need..." a few wise words.

you didn't watch the nightmare before christmas did you? Or mabie not the the meaning?

The idea of christmas is great, but the basis of it IS christianity, which I'm fine with also, but when you think of good times, I hope it's not in the shoping line, but at home with your family.

Oh, and that would be an extremly crappy song. You don't always get what you need either.

RE: RE: Big Know-It-All-Know-Nothing

no reply cuz i'm a pretty dang busy person. also, i don't necessarily feel like getting into a ****ing match with anyone about MY beliefs and MY opinions. it is my right to express them and not my responsibility to defend them.

i haven't seen the nightmare before christmas and that wasn't the point of the post. if you base your opinions and/or feelings about christmas on a movie that's kinda sad. however if your opinions and/or feelings are based on negative christmas experiences that's exceptionally sad.

who cares what faith christmas is based upon? i don't exactly remember santa claus being around for Jesus' birth but somehow figure from many faiths/beliefs became christmas standards. and a christmas tree is supposed to be a pagen symbol... how did christians begin to associate that with their most sacred of births?

you seem to like to fight for the sake of fighting and have trouble admitting that there may be another valid point of view (another reason i didn't hang out in here waiting for a chance to reply).

as for my quote being from "an extrememly crappy song" well... there's no accounting for taste. BTW- quoting a song (or a person or a book for that matter) doesn't mean a person likes it by any means but merely that the phrase is applicable.

sorry for the length but i have to add this.

my christmas gifts will be gift cards this year because my new home has put me behind a bit in the finances. i won't be able to buy them until about a week before christmas. the impersonal gift cards will be attached by ribbon to the hand-painted ornaments and placed in hand-sewn plastic lined gift bags addressed with a hand-made gift tags with ornament care instructions on the back. my mom still has an ornament her 6th grade teacher made for her over 30 years ago (he made one for each member of the class). i'm sure you'll understand why i'll be too busy to wait for a reply. maybe i'll send you an ornament c/o tOdd and in return you can make an attempt at not being so mean. it'd be like when the grinch's heart swelled up too big for his chest!

and you DO get what you need, most people just don't usually recognize it.
