the Anita Blake series in general

Since around "Blue Moon" or so, the books have been little more than excuses for Anita to screw her way through the supernatural world. The stories are no longer horror-mysteries. She's no longer the sandpapery-tender character that I loved to be annoyed with; she's just a slut with a string of drooling lovers following her like dogs on a leash. She's so irresistible, it's hysterical. Hamilton forced a choice between Richard-originally a very good, moral, naive man, turned into a monster through no fault of his own-and Jean Claude, the obligatory sexy,French vampire. Anita went from being freaked out by a naked woman crawling to her (Cherry) to needing to have two men with her at the same time. These and other artificial plot devices have diverted the books into storylines that have harmed the series. Frankly, I refuse to buy any more of the Blake books; and if you read Hamilton's 'Nightseer", you'll see that it's just Anita & Jean Claude in different packaging. Many fanfics that I've read are better; while they may contain sex, they *also* have a plot.

Incubus Dreams

I loved Incubus Dreams. Yes it was heavy on the sex but I thought it was a nice break from all the serious & violent plotlines from some of the past books. I think this book was more about developing the relationships of the characters & wrapping up some of the loose ends of Anita's moral dilemmas. But hey, I love Anita & her gang of lovers & comrades. And I am looking forward to seeing Edward again & finding out what happened with him & the single mom he was falling for.

Incubus dreams

it could have been better.... if the book had less sex and more story line... by the end i was sort of lost... who was the dragon??? uhhh?? jus missed it completely... and whas with the 2 new english vamps that have sex with anita at the beginning... they were sort of slipped in so that she could have different guys to have 'metaphysical' sex with.... ahhhh i hope the next one had edward and a good old story.

Incubus dreams could have been better. I also noticed that she didn't actually eliminate the bad guy, but passed him off. There was a small story line, but it was mostly sex. I was dissapointed with the book, but i still look forward to reading Danse Macabre the next book. It is supposed to come out July 2006.

No Edward :(

Laurell says she's going back to the more old-school Anita, and I hope she's right--I like a good mysetery. I love a good mystery. I loath a poor one. Edward was referenced, twice, but offscene. Maybe that's important--who knows what sort of trouble he's getting himself into that Anita just couldn't handle? If the next book is in London, or anywhere, really, it won't change this: Anita has to come to grips with her new powers, and until then, the books are going to focus on sex, and the way it screws up the many people who engage in it.

Incubus Dreams

I was not displeased with the novel. In fact, I rather enjoyed most of it... including but definitely not limited to the erotic scenes. I believe that even the "sex" scenes where Anita "has sex with half of St. Louis" (damn, didn't know St. Louis had that small a population) brought about certain elements of character development.

I also believe that she could not add much more detail about certain characters without making Incubus Dreams into an airplane size novel. I cannot wait for the next book in the series, where we find out more about Wicked and Truth. Plus, I want to know what Jean-Claude and Anita can accomplish concerning the unbound vampires in the Church of Eternal Life.

Thank you, Laurell K. Hamilton, for another thrilling read.

disappointment in hamilton's books

I'm not sayin it waz bad, juss disappointin. half tha damn book waz about anita havin sex or her thinkin about sex or her damn near havin sex.
And usually laurell goes into extreme detail about tha characters and setting, this time there waz barely anything. She didn't talk enough
about tha dragon or wicked n' truth, or that one vamp dude thats gone insane.
Tha anita blake stories are turning into pornos, hell if i wanna read crap like that i'll pick up a kama sutra.I am a huge fan of laurell, i have all her books including tha merry gentry series and nightseer, but she needs to go back to tha old wayz. Even merry gentry has more action in it and it started off like a sex book.

No one gets tiered of almost the same thing with different people for over 400 pages.
