Its low-budget, low-creativity television. What ever happened to hiring good writers and actually telling a story? Now it's "hrmm, you have big tits and are a bitch, and you like to wear skimpy clothes. ok, you're in. Go down the hall until you find a room with a militant lesbian, an effeminate gay man, a cocky bastard, a sweet but simple guy, and another girl who is just as bitchy as you but less attractive and smarter." |

People are still buying advertising spots on them, and even if they're paying less and less every time, the networks are still making a hell of a lot more on that then they were on Friends or Frasier or anything. Sitcom = Well Paid Actors, Well Paid Crew, Well Paid Caterors (sp), Well Paid Everything... plus sets and costumes and all that. Reality Show = $1,000,000 cash prize... low budget camera crew with maybe.... ten $20,000 mini-dv cameras.... a computer, Finalcut Pro, and Subway lunch for the editing staff. No costumes, no talent, no thing. They don't even have to buy food for them, look at survivor! People like watching them eat spam that's been burried in the sand for months.... I miss good TV! |

I heard about one pitch for a reality show in which five pimps would all live in a house together, and that the show would be about them and their whores. Good Lord, could it possibly get any stupider? Almost all reality shows star stupid, rich, sleazy, arrogant people that are bigger prostitutes than the whores mentioned above. Some enjoy watching reality shows as a "guilty pleasure"; I just think they're examples of how truly low people will go for money or fame, and how conceited and shallow they can really get. |

Eventually Survivor came along, which is where the idea of voting people off came from. Both Real World, and Road rules then quickly adopted the concept, and after that it was just an explosion of bad ideas. |
