RE: not foot ball in any way

Adam, spend a few years in L.A. and you'll appreciate having trees and air you can't see. I couldn't live in the U.P. but I visit a lot. You have the Porkies and the Keewanaw peninsula to the west and Pictured rocks to the east. On those rare days when you can swim in Lake Superior, 12 mile beach can't be beat. Around Iron Mountain there is Piers Gorge and Fumee Lake. What's not to like?

RE: foot ball

i suppose your right in that sense. Fummee is a nice area. Some city officials wanted to take out allof the trees out of there that were broken down forma tornado (i lived right by fumee btw, had some hail and wind, but nothing much else, weird eh) and therse a huge controversy that they should be kept that way cos nature did it....and all that...the falls are nice too...by the road...im suprised you have heard of piers gorge...to tell the truth i never went there. ....i lived on bluff view dr on Upper pine creek road...where fumee is located...and those bluffs and feilds are pretty nice, and not everyday in the city do you have bears, coyotes, rabbits, skunks (sprayed once) deer (millions of deer)....but all in all there is nothing to do but look at such things

RE: foot ball

I did the 6-mile hike around Fumee Lake last fall. They ruined the waterfall on the road with a bunch of decking and steps for the people too scared to scale the hill with the poison ivy. They did the same thing out at Agate Falls but that one can be climbed around easily. Every time I am up there I spend some time at Piers Gorge.

You are right about nothing else to do if you live there. I suppose an exciting day would be going to see the spring on the side of the road in Norway or visit that crazy old guy's museum of wonder.

RE: I hate pasties

Yea, that is the place. I'll have to look for the Groveland mine you mentioned. I never heard of Capone's mansion. I guess it was a triple-wide? I have heard that the Four Seasons was mob- connected at one time.

Mary's Place is pretty nasty. It is the only restaurant (I use that term loosely) in Beecher ever since the pub burned down. It's safer eating in Iron Mountain or Dunbar.

RE: foot ball

true
yeah groveland mine is a cool place
The "Capone mansion" actually consists of one full size Guest House (when you go down the trail you see some shacks along the old path, and then you come to the house, its a normal looking house and its all vandalized of course, but still nice i guess, its on a small lake and all) and after the huose you keep going and then you come to his Mansion which is pretty big, but i have never seen it, when i went to check it out at 14 i saw the guest house and thougth that was it, and i really wanna see the other house now, If you turn on cemetery rd by the cemetery in pembine, you keep going donw that road then turn right on Reed rd, and keep going and soon on the right you see a big white house and i used to be in love with the girl that used to live there and on the other side are some rel nutjobs who have been working on there house since 1985, but keep going and on the left soon (before the next road, which is county z, that goes to a golf course and all) you will see two small old ass looking tower things...ther enot big, but there made of cement and kinda hidden by trees, and thats where it is...watch out...groveland mine and capones mansion are both "No tresspassing" but noone is ever at either one of them
