Rebuttal

Hey Just Concern:Have you been in some sort of coma for the last month? If you noticed my rebuttal to Councilman Yopps baseless comments about me occurred almost a month ago.And it sure seems funny that it would take you all this time just to copy the same rhetoric the Good Councilman used.In any event I would suggest that you use some new material preferably your own.I will never waste my time with personal attacks on others. But I will debate anyone about issues. So if you or anyone else would like to debate the issues that effect ALL of us involved with the status of the city so be it.But if you want to waste your time making negative comments about me go ahead, besides people like you only strengthen my resolve.Regarding giving Mr Blackwell a chance we have no choice. The Governor has seen to that.I as a 30 year member of the Public Safety Department can only hope for the best for all of us involved with the city.

A. Blackwell Appointment

This response is in regard to Mr. McClelland negative response to the appointment of Mr. Blackwell. I agree, with Councilman Yopp when he says that you have been a "KISSING UP" to every Mayor who has sat in that office at least from Mayor Bob to Mayor Porter. When will you start to stand on your own two feet, with your own opinion, and not with what you think the people want to hear. The residents of HP do not have a problem speaking for themselves.

So, I urge you to concentrate on union matters more and quit taking down were union matter are concerned and STAND UP. Besides, you don't live in this city, but you want us to believe that you care about our city. You have a city thats financially secure and a police dept. So give us a break and give the man a chance.

One thing we know for sure, and that is $1.00 annually won't kill us, oppose to the millions that was leaving our city for the salaries of the others. UH!

I Totally Agree Stray & Jeff

For the past last thirty years this City has sunk deeper in the quicksand, and the only way this city might come back to life is to stop allowing so many outsiders to run our city. Also after being raised 30 years of my life on Brighton & 12th Street (now Rosa Park Blvd) I remember the good times, and now I am seeing the bad times thanks to those who was in office and stole city funds.Stephen,I did not answer your poll because you listed Art Blackwell and Ramona Pearson, but you did not allow the citizens or your site readers to vote for neither one.I believe that this city needs a City Administration that will stand up on it's own (it can be called a new generation Administration) new people with new ideas.Ramona left us without producing documents showing where our debt has been lowered, and Blackwell? hopefully he won't cause Highland Park to lose more citizens. This post shows what I think about the city crisis.

Part of the problem with Highland Park, is that everbody want's to point a finger, and sling mud, at anybody that does not agree with there view's. If everybody would back up, and take a few deep breathe's, open there eye's and see what the real problem's are, and start working to fix the broken part's, Highland Park would be in a HELLVA BETTER SHAPE!!! Quit your BITCHIN, and start fixing the problems!!!

Election

Though I no longert live in highland Park, or even in the State, I feel I must voice my opinion. I was born in Highland Park General Hospital, and live in H.P. for twenty sixe years, before moving ot of State, I remember the first term, of Aurther's Dad, Bob. it was great, by the second term, it turned to trash. If aurther learned anything from his Dad, you dont want him in the Mayor's Office. you have enough problem's, as it is.

I find it amazing that I would be personally attacked by an elected official merely for voicing my concerns over the status of the city. There is no place in my comments where I make any derogatory statements regarding Mr Blackwell. However after 30 years of service as a member of the Public Safety Department I have earned the right to voice my concerns. And if elected officials have to resort to making baseless claims on someone because they may have a differant point of view so be it.I ,along with all the members of the Highland Park Department of Public Safety have a stake in what goes on in the city. And you can rest assure that we will be keeping a keen eye on everthing that is going on .So you can continue to attack me all you want Councilman Yopp.Your baseless opinion of me is irrevelant.I will always fight for my right to exist. And I will never be bullied into going against my beliefs just to go along. There is enough sheep here already.and I am certainly not one of them.

the working people of highlandpark and the member,s of local 41 say,s thank the lord.the members of local 41 has taken a pay cut and it makes me sick when jan lazar and others take very large pay check,s home and when most of the local 41 member get paid they are looking for a second job just to pay the bill,s.in the legacy new,s i see that with lay off and pay to the union people we can pay people to work part time(jan ,steve, and all the other people who are not out in the street,s trying to keep this city moveing.it up set,s me when omar and lewis. jump on the ban wagon.this is or was a strong union town, but with the mercer group coming to town with the main focus of selling off the water plant and takeing the money and running away.it say,s ms. pearson has not talked to the union in months and jan don,t talk with the union she talk at the union .i was on active duty when all the city employees were laid -off .so much with support you troops, the way i was treated is the way all union people are treated .we show up everyday put in a full day,s work and have not gotten a increase in five years, but the powers to be want to say we have cut labor cost which is true, because you have a few people with hands on to make this city run,but you also have people with high salaries and benefits that can,t relate with the working man who still have the weight of highlandpark on their back.let mr.blackwell have a go at it.he might under stand that, union people are peopl to.ms. lewis should talk with the union and ms omar should understand that we have as much power as council.thank you council yopp i hope the council will not for get most of you on council were ex- union member and i hope you understand what it,s like not to be able to put food on the table. we only have 10-15 members so when you here that labor cost,s are being cut that.s true;but believe me we ( local-41 ) have been cut to the bone. glenn walker pres.local-41

Emergency Financial Manager

I read Patrick McClelland's comments regarding Mr. Arthur Blackwell and not only did I think he was out of focus, but this guy is here for the money and benefits the Highland Park residents provide him.
Mr. Blackwell has a genuine interest in this community...his Mother, Father and relatives live here. Mr. Blackwell accepted this position for one dollar annually, not a QUARTER OF A MILLION PLUS SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ANNUALLY!! Between Pearson, Lazaar, Parks and Egan, we're talking close to ONE MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY in salaries and benefits. McClelland come into this city and take the money from Highland Park citizens to Roseville, Mich. He also spoke of Highland Park's demise. I fault the State Monitor that made a lot of money for doing nothing for many years. McClelland has buttered up to every Mayor and politician who has served in office since he's been in the Public Safety Department! This guy is one who runs with the Fox and butters with the Hound. Mr. Blackwell will do a better job than Pearson and Lazaar.

Highland Park Administrator

I am a 30 year veteran of the Highland Park Public Safety Department.I have also been involved with the union for over 25 years. There is not much I do not know about the history of Highland Park.and I do know that politics has been the demise of this city.and that the appointment of Arthur Blackwell appears to be political. The members of the Highland Park Public Safety Department have gone through some very tough times in the last few years, but it was not because of Ramonas administration. We suffered because of past practices of previous administrations and the indifferance of the State of Michigan who was aware of Highland Parks problems as early as 1990 but did nothing to avert the disaster we are now facing.I do not know what Mr Blackwell brings to the table, but it sure would have been nice to know before the appointment was made The fact that the Governor did not make any statement before the appointment was made cocerns me .So at this point we can only speculate on her reasons but meanwhile the future of the city is at stake, which certainly effects the Men and Women of the Highland Park Public Safety Department who put their lives on the line everyday for the citizens of Highland Park..
