It's done by Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's, and he talks simply about the US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile. It's pretty shocking. www.truemajorityaction. org/bensbbs |

| Posted By: Rox Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 188 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile you guys are seriously taking information from an ice-cream making hippie as unbiased and factual? |
| Posted By: adam Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 186 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile well i was also gonna say "i dont believe it" but it was too bland |
| Posted By: gilly3 Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 183 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Actually, he's a successful businessman and leader of large grassroots political movement. Your petty insults are interesting. Is that because you can't refute the numbers he put out there? It's annoying when the opposition can't fight back against the numbers, so they start attacking the character of their adversary. Do you really believe we need that many nuclear weapons? And if so, I'm interested to know if you think it's okay for Korea, Iran, or Syria to have just 1 nuclear weapon? |
| Posted By: adam Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 180 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile shut up gilly, you anti smoker...i dont give a damn and im guessing not enough of other ppl do either.. |
| Posted By: gilly3 Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 174 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Adam, you are predictable. Putting that aside... Are you telling me that you really don't care that there is a world super power that has enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth a dozen times over? And that that power is attacking defenseless nations and replacing their governments through violence, force, and "shock and awe" terrorism? It doesn't concern you that your country lets your schools go underfunded while requesting billions to build schools and infrastruction in Anti-American, Anti-Christian countries? This is the problem with the world today. It scares me. |
| Posted By: GirlUWant Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 172 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Yes, he really doesn't care. As far as your question about who should and shouldn't have a stockpile...the United States is such a humanitarian big/bro kind of country that I am comfortable with thinking that we wouldn't do something unfair and crazy with them, killing is never fair...I just mean, I'm not so sure that some of these countries like Iraq, would have the same attitude about what was worthy of actually using them. I would hope that any country would use them as a last resort. I also have faith that we would blow up any missles in the air before they could make it to American soil. |
| Posted By: gilly3 Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 170 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Did you watch the video? I can understand wanting to have a nuclear weapons stockpile. I can almost understand wanting a nuclear weapons stockpile large enough to destroy the earth. I can't understand any justification for maintaining a nuclear weapons stockpile large enough to destroy the earth a dozen times over. Especially when it costs us over 17 billion dollars per year just to have them. Personally, I think it would be wise to have maybe a dozen nuclear bombs total. That's enough to be a threat. I hope we never use one. Never. |
| Posted By: adam Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 166 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile yeah i dont think the US ...being the country i live in...will bomb themselves, so i think im ok and terrorists like to go for new york and not wisconsin, so again i am ok...not saying id be happy about it....just a "glad its not me cos i dont want that" type of thing |
| Posted By: Snrub Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 164 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile I know at least myself and GirlUWant are old enough to remember something from the 80's called MAD. It stand for; Mutually Assured Destruction basically it means that no matter who starts a nuclear war, everyone dies. |
| Posted By: nickk Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 161 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Gilly, you dumbass. We need that stockpile for other planets that pose a threat, and meteors that could wipe us out. |
| Posted By: GirlUWant Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 154 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Sorry Snrub, don't remember MAD from the eighties! I remember MAD Magazine! LOL! |
| Posted By: Snrub Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 149 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Maybe that was just the rest of the world that knew. |
| Posted By: observant Posted On: May 5, 2005 Views: 144 | RE: US Nuclear Weapons Stockpile I remember MAD. We are reducing the numbers btw but it's not like you can wipe away an arsenal that large overnight. (unless you use them) The reason we ended up with so many in the first place is because we were having an arms race with The Soviet Union to see who would go broke first. We won. It boils down to a classic "keeping up with the Jonses" type of thing. Everyone on both sides knew all those weapons were overkill but everyone wanted to keep their bragging rights too. I worked in the chemical weapons field for over 12 years. The US decided it was going to destroy ALL of our chemical weapons back in the eighties. To date, around 75% remain and there are several reasons for that but the two biggest are: 1 Red tape 2 Building facilities that can safely destroy the bombs. Believe it or not, it takes a lot more time and money to get rid of hazardous substances than it does to make them. |
