Lakes...

I got a fear of being in deep water in lakes or the ocean. I guess i heard too many stories about sharks and the Roosevelt Catfish (there is a dam here in AZ that is rumoured to have catfish the size of boats that will ingest literally anything that comes near them. the water gets so dark that you cant see past 6 feet deep) So when i go swimming i cant handle when i cant see the bottom. Plus that and i have bad memories of underwater torture as a child (long story...dont ask) So thats my wierdest phobia. I didn't seem to mind too much when i was trying water skiing but i figure thats cuz i had the life vest on and people nearby. Anyone else got that problem?

RE: Lakes...

I can't swim. I can float, so I'll go in the deep end of a pool, but I never go in the ocean or lakes or whatever.

RE: Lakes...

Do you really not know how to swim?

Bakakage I've never heard about the Roosevelt Catfish, I was just there on Saturday too. What part of Arizona are you from?

RE: Lakes...

I love the water, as a kid I spent every Summer holidays at what was a really cool casual surfing town called Ocean Grove, now it is just full off fat-walleted yuppies who think they can bank-roll their own coolness by getting into mega-expensive Billabong gear and Ray Bans or whatever - dumb-nuts all of them!!!

OK settle down big fella.....

RE: Lakes...

Im from Gilbert (southeast of phoenix)

Course, i did have that one incident where i almost drowned in the ocean. i got a charlie horse in both legs that left my paralyzed from the waist down. Course the water was so cold it was numb. Just had to start screaming until one of the guys in my group came out to drag me in. (the lifeguard just threw me a dirty look as me and my friend were about drowning under the waves as my friend pulled me in) So yeah...that sucked. i tend to cramp in cold water for some reason.

RE: Lakes...

My parents built a pool in our backyard when I was two, so I grew up swimming all summer long. Then when I was older I did a lot of water skiing. I won't swim in any lake anymore, but oceans and pools are the bomb!

adam - that is too bad that you can't swim. Do you think that is more common for Northerners?
