It doesn't translate to American Culture because priests don't have the importance they have in Ireland. Steve Martin as Ted? Hasn't he ruined enough Iconic roles? His Pink Panther performance was sacrilegious. The American version of all the great BBC shows of the last 15 years have been goofy/wacky versions of brilliant tension filled comedies. If anything, play the original Teds in Prime-time. In the context of Irish life, Father Ted is brilliantly funny. I'm sick to death of the dumbed-down American versions of BBC greats! What's next, Last of the Summer Wine? Or Dr. Who as mentally challenged, flying through time in the ReTardis. American network television is only going to re-write Father Ted to pander to the lowest common denominator. Father Ted isn't fart jokes! We have already destroyed the Top Gear platform this year.
