Linkin Park is just screaming the same whiney cliché over and over again. "I'M ABOUT TO BREAK!" cause ya know, that's real deep. Ya know what. I've never actually sat down and tried to analyze the lyrics to Plush, but if you'll notice that most poems are not easy to understand. Reading a poem by W.B. Yeats and understanding it right off the bat is a nearly impossible thing to do... but does that make him any less of a poet? Linkin Parks lyrics are just dumbed down for corporate ears so people don't have to figure anything out for themselves. I hate that kind of music. |

They havn't had an album come out in a freakin long time but all their stuff is good. Black Balloon and Iris and Slide are the only ones that ever made it big on the radio but they've actually got some stuff that is even like, borderline Punk (though I know Fat Mike would never in a million years call the Goo Goo Dolls Punk, that's why its borderline) |

And as for that "im about to break" comment, im guessing you havent actually heard any of thier CDs. Just one or two songs on the radio. They have a poetic quality to a good number of thier songs like "With You" The song Plush is just bizzare. like stoner spewing crap type. And I feel, and I feel When the dogs begin to smell her Will she smell alone? ?????? seriously. This like a chick who smells really bad so he wants her to wear a mask (or paper bag) so no one recognizes her? |

A friend of mine really likes them, and I still think their lyrics suck. Back to STP. Granted, I'm sure Scott was on an assortment of drugs when he wrote everything he ever wrote... but lets take a look at modern literature. Oscar Wilde (A Picture of Dorian Gray)- Addicted to Opium Louis Carol (Alice in Wonderland)- Addicted to Opium Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes) - Addicted to Cocaine Ernest Hemmingway (The Sun Also Rises) - Addicted to alcohol and absinth. This list can go on and on and on. Many truly brilliant artists have indeed had a love affair with drugs, and been under the influence of drugs while writing. This is not to say that one must be on drugs to be a good writer, or even that it helps, but saying, "Stoned words strewn together" doesn't mean anything. And back to my previous argument, lots of things that you'll read won't be understood the first time you read them. If you can honestly go read 10 of T.S. Elliot's poems and understand the fullest extent of their complexity on the first, or even 100th time around, then we'll talk about lyrics making perfect sense. |
