Now that everyone's nice and riled...

This is honestly like listening to a bunch of junior high students shriek because someone said their favorite band isn't cool. In all truth, it basically comes down to this: accepting donations for work which is not yours can lead to legal repercussions. It's not safe, not completely ethical and not entirely legal. To 'suggest' that donations are welcome to support something which costs no money for the artist to produce is rather rapacious. If the money would be going to Erin's parents to pay for Internet access, or something along those lines, perhaps it wouldn't seem so despicable. However, the money wouldn't go there, and I'm kind of disgusted with this whole thing. Everyone seems hell-bent on defending their beliefs until death or something equally definitive. Fine. Those of you who have pointed out the ethical wrong of what is going on, thank you. Those of you who are going to shriek at me and call me traitor, tell me to get off the site, etc. Save your typing fingers. I don't intend to write again on this topic now that I've said my piece. Everyone, have a decent day.

ALL

Okay way to much C-R-A-P for me to post to everyone, so I will cover everything to the best of my ability. this is one reason i chose the new name.....shortens quite a bit so that I can get right to the point.

Integra Fan: You're funny. First of all, using metaphors is not lying. it is an exaggeration of facts using a most oftne melodramatic example. you example of a heart as cold as the arctic is pretty good, but it is just using imagry that humans can interpret and understand. next, you said i wasn't wante dhere and said that i didn't much care one way or the other. Busking, as you call it, is illegal in many areas. You see, dear, they call it pan-handling and in some places you CAN get cited for it....AND if it is NOT your music to begin with (stolen from another artist) you can ge tin even bigger trouble. Assuming that you play on the streets legally, you require a business liscense.

Nextly, to whomever posted that Hirano started doing things somewhat like this....sorry, I cannot remember all of the nicks...yes. In JAPAN it is legal, but you still have to get permission from the original creator and the publisher. This is all that I am saying. Without permission it is considered stealing and violation of copyright. What makes me curious is why you are getting so overworked here? Guilty conscience?

Next, to whomever called me a hypocrite....terribly sorry about forgetting the nick. Everyone is a hypocrite. erin whining and saying that she is NOT trying to get money for the comic and then looking at the button which says "DONATE TO SHINE"...so if I am dam-nable for being a hypocrite so is your little idol.

Orange, I have to agree that this is ridiculous...although I got starte don my own. I was glad to see that someone else had been here before me.

Piyo-chan: Very cool! Contrary to popular belief I don't actually have anything against Erin or this comic. I just disagree that she should be allowed to do this without permission. I really don't think that is such a leap of faith there.

Blah

Orange; So we're just bunch of kids? If you feel that way, go on to do something grown-up. Why waste your time here?
And I'm not easily manipulative. Period.

Devil May Care; Whatever, I'm sick of argumenting about this, since in the ends it's not even none of my business. Do what you want. I guess I shouldn't have get myself mixed in this in the first place, since I'm not even american, and don't know the laws there.
And my first languange is finnish, by the way.
I'm glad if my grammar is that good. ^_^

Agreement

I agree with Jane. I

f you want to leave, then get lost. We won't miss you here. Donation is not a crime, and has NEVER been a crime.

Now tell me, have you ever seen someone on the streets asking for donations get arrested unless he was already a wanted man or was trafficking drugs? I doubt you have.

"catty little, "I like to argue" comments"

"I like to argue" eh?

Well hell, look here. I am not donating a cent of my parents' money. I may donate if Erin still accepts them when I earn my own money. And there's no damn law that says you can't donate anything to someone unless their rebels etc etc.

And for your information, we are NOT easily manipulated. If I was, you'd probably not see me on here. I'm am saying all this uninfluenced.

I chose to defend Erin because I think that asking for donations is not wrong.

PS: also to devil may care

you commented earlier about seeing that you aren't wanted here, so why do you continue to return?
Erin is asking for monetary support and continuing the comic whether she gets it or not, which is not something a greedy person would do. Do Not assume she is being a selfish person just by her request for donations, this inquiry of yours to go to the keenspace administrators is little more than an idle and useless threat, seeing as they themselves likely ask for money of people on a daily basis when people start comic strips, even though the basic service is FREE. I myself have not looked into this, but I'll let you be the judge, albeit a flawed one.

Devil May Care

"So far what I have seen on this board are nothing more than a bunch of adolescents using other people's ideas to make money for themselves"

Is that so? Are the rest of us using other people's ideas to make money? No. Is Erin trying to make money from Hellsing which belongs to Kouta Hirano? NO.

Damn it, when will it get through your hard-to-please head that she's asking for donations and NOT charging for this comic?

Asking for donations is similar to busking on the roads. You don't charge others for listening to your music. They donate to you when they feel you are worth it. And is busking illegal? No.

She keeps emphasizing that it is a DONATION. NOT a fee. Hear that? A DONATION. If you're not sure what a donation is, then go look up the dictionary. Donations are totally voluntary unless forced. And is Erin forcing and demanding that we donate? NO.

also to devil may care

I agree with jane, don't assume things if you do not know the artist/author, or her methods. I'm sure erin is working her f**king A$$ off for all of us actually following her comic and trying to help her out!! so don't assume that she is doing anything illegal or something that hirano sensei would get ****ed off about. If his little bits in the manga volumes with jan and luke's corner or the hilarious drawings on the inside from and back cover are any indication of how easy going he is, then I'm more than certain he'd encourage erin san to keep going with the good work! so **** THE H311 OFF!

To Devil May Care

You are a freaking hypocrite, you know that?
1)First you say "Before I **** you off", then you say "I'm not trying to **** anyone off".
2)First you say this comic is pathetic and you want to leave, then stick around and take offense if people tell you to leave.

But the most annoying thing is that you are getting all ****ed off because Erin is making a doujinshi of Hellsing ans asking *willing* people a small donation, as if you were Hirano himself. Hirano would NOT get ****ed at Erin. And you know why he would NOT? Because before starting Hellsing, Hirano was a freaking doujinshika! Hirano used to make doujinshi of Cowboy Beebop and Vash the Stampede, selling them for PROFIT!
Hirano did that, and nobody sued him because doujinshi are considered by manga and anime authors like free advertisement of their series, thus they don't care if the copyrights are broken because for them it's all free advertisement!
So why do you bother Erin and her fans as if she did anything wrong? She merely did what her favourite manga author did before her.

Devil May Care

It is just about the same. When she said on the button that it was for Shine, she was merely joking. Metaphors may be used to refer to another thing in order to better understandhow it is or how it looks like. But if you want to make it so practical in how the phrases mean in saying that Erin is a liar, then my argument stands. For example, if you say that a person's heart is "colder than the Arctic" or something similar, it would be lying in this case because that person's heart is NOT cold as long as he is alive and well. What the phrase is trying to portay is how much he lacks of emotion.

I try not to reveal to much about myself, but since I have played it straight so far, I'll tell you that I am not a minor.
I heard about this from a friend and came down to try to get that button off. Personally I think how worked up everyone is getting is kind of comical, but if the law works one way for me, it should work that way for everyone. good luck.

And you all are . . . How old?

Wow, I made my comment, what, 4? days ago. I was just browsing through, saw the poll, thought I'd see what people were saying . . . Interesting how they all seemed like 12 year olds fawning over their idol. Then, later (ie today), I come back out of curiosity because the poll is still up and . . . my God . . . What is wrong with you people?

LMAO

Honestly, who cares? I think it's hilarious that a bunch of children would want to, and WILLINGLY give their "allowance" and "spare change" to a person who will just spend it in support of a country like Japan, but it's none of my business if she likes to accept, what does she call them . . . "donations" from little kids that likely got the money from their parents. I don't know if it's illegal (and I assume that it is since most comics have donation buttons up) but who really cares? It's kind of funny really . . . I don't often come across such manipulative people. . . I, however, have better things to spend my hard earned money on then high school girls' wanna-be doujinshi. If anyone else feels the same, so be it. Hell, if anyone feels differently, I don't care!

The point of this was not to rant. I merely wanted to inquire as to the age of the main participants of this argument. I'm curious to know how many of you really are little kids who get their kicks from online arguments. I admit, I don't look much better after this comment, but curiosity killed the cat. So indulge me ^_^!

Oh, and, if you don't like either of my comments . . . I don't particularly care! So don't try to argue with me, I don't care. I'll probably come back once or twice to see how old you all are, but honestly, I'm not going to reply to any of your catty little, "I like to argue" comments, okay? So, Have a nice day eveybody!
