Winter Gear

Todd! :D

in the city, in the winter, the streets and sidewalks get covered in salt. when there is snow and salt or water and salt on the pavement, that mixture can be at least 10 degrees or more BELOW freezing. that's some pretty frickin cold water. sometimes my dogs will get ice between their little feet pads, and it hurts them a lot. so in the winter i make them wear little booties which they hate but it helps them be able to walk. otherwise they just give up and lay down on the cold sidewalk. i only put them in a sweater if it's extra mucho cold and they look miserable.

ok that's all i got! :D

I agree. The dog booties aren't gay in the winter time. In fact, the rescue dogs at the World Trade Center site wore booties as they worked to protect their feet. So booties are totally manly dog accessories when worn for practical reasons.

RE: Winter Gear

My dogs won't go anywhere during snowstorms without the booties, and won't go in the rain without the raincoats. They came to me that way, all wussified. It's one less argument to have with the dog. Plus, then they go potty outside instead of inside since they're more brave. The funniest part of dog booties is how fast they run to try and fling them off. Hil-arious.

RE: Winter Gear

are u kidding me????

i grew up in northern wisconsin where it gets way below "ten BELOW freezing"

that isnt cold at all...we brang our dog inside at night of course, but during the day when its still negative 15 or less he even ran around playfully, even as a pup

its so funny hearing people say ten below is really cold...my crap is that temperature in the winter time

yah, what i meant was that when cold water mixes with salt, it remains water but reaches temperatures below freezing. so even tho it's water, it's much colder than ice and that much harder on dog's feet. i live in chicago and know a thing or two about snow, salt, and freezing weather, thank you very much. :D

RE: Winter Gear

I live in New Brunswick, Canada. It regularly goes down to minus 30 in the winter here and my dogs regularly walk through snow up to their necks without a problem. It tires them out, but it does not hurt them.
