Health Reasons

They say you should also do it for health reasons because it prevents certain types of cancers too.

RE: Health Reasons

I had my dog fixed, and I felt way guilty about it before hand. I thought how could I do that to him? So, I dropped him off at 7 in the morning and the vet said come and get him around noon. I went to get him and he looked like it really hurt...so I went to Arby's and got him a big fat roast beef sandwich. He loved it and like an hour later, he was running around like nothing happened! Way cool! Anyway, I think it's a good idea and stuff.

That's sort of like saying that decapitation prevents brain cancer.

RE: Health Reasons

it's just a good idea. go to countries where they don't do it and see the state of the homeless dogs and cats. if everyone did it the homeless animals would be minimized. it's the responsible thing to do.

RE: Health Reasons

neutering prevents testicular cancer...yes decapitation would prevent brain cancer. The difference being you can't live without your brain. You can, believe it or not, live with testicles. The other difference being that brain cancer is nowhere near as common as testicular cancer.

Neutering also prevents prostatitis. Seeing an older, unneutered male dog cry in pain from urinating pure blood is pretty miserable.

I meant to say you can, believe it or not, live withOUT testicles. You can live with them too, but it's much harder to live with them in my experience.

RE: Health Reasons

and what happens if he someday gets out? just for a little bit but let's say roscoe still has his nuts and he goes missing. he could have quite an adventure in the big city and although his Oddliness isn't PLANNING on having a litter he may be stuck with one if that were to happen and the bitch's owner tracked down roscoe's owner.

(hey, that's the literal use of the term! yay for me!)

RE: Health Reasons

Spaying females is definitely important if you aren't going to breed her, and even if you do breed your female dog once, you should have her spayed aftwerwards. Otherwise they can get these really nasty infections in the uterus known as pyometra. And yes, male dogs get prostate cancer if you don't neuter them, but it also helps their behavior patterns assuming you do it before they turn two and more aggressive traits kick in.

This is all in addition to the very important fact that irresponsible breeding leads to about 45,000 strays dying each year. (tell me if I'm remembering that number incorrectly). There is no good reason NOT to neuter your pet, basically!

RE: Health Reasons

Breast cancer is a leading cause of death in female dogs. Their chances of developing breast cancer are reduced considerably by spaying at a young age. Mammory tumors are even considered "rare" in female dogs who are spayed before their first heat cycle.

RE: Health Reasons

I think too many of you fat lazy people watch my show. I only say to spay and neuter you pets at the end of my shows, because the puppy mill corperation are lining my pockets with cash.

Why is it that we as humans think that we somehow have the right to decided the fate of any animals, we should be more concerned that we are well on our way to destroying the planet then mutilating animals.

oh there is no God he does not exist

RE: Health Reasons

I hate that Bob Barker! (Happy Gilmore)

Anyway, this guy is obviously ignorant. I have a degree in biology, worked as a vet tech and have worked with all sorts of animals for the last 15 years. If you want to do what's right, neuter your pets! There are many reasons as far as health (cancer, infections, blockage) and behavior (urinating, aggression, frustration, fighting, biting), not to mention unwanted litters.

Just do the research... It is a simple operation and the recovery is easy on males. The sooner, the better...
