Good Citizen Award, Part Deux

Remember when I shared that I had helped the cops catch a guy that had hit a guy on a bicycle and then left the scene?

I have some updates. Last Friday, I got a thank you letter from bicycle guy's dad, who is a Chief of Police in a little town somewhere in Kansas.

Also last Friday night, I happened to run into a guy that works in the ER here that worked the day that my daughter sliced her foot open at a hotel swimming pool, at Wal-Mart, and we talked about the car/bicycle accident and he told me that he worked the accident. The newspaper listed his injuries as:

The bicyclist suffered injuries above his right eye, right side of the head, middle finger of the right hand, both knees, left shoulder, both arms and lower back, according to SPD’s accident report.

The newspaper said the guy that hit him had already had a suspended license, no insurance, and some other stuff. He is in quite a bit of trouble.

well, in that case - good. at least he was a bad guy and not just some regular joe who's life was about to be ruined because of you.

Like I said before, I did it for the dude that was laying bleeding in the street.

His list of injuries were pretty long, they could possibly ruin his life, ya know...when you see someone laying in the street, you kind of want to help them, and he was in no position to chase after the guy that just mowed him down.

I think the "average joe" would have freaked out and been more worried about the person that they hit and wonder if they were okay, than running off trying to cover their own ass.

One of the injuries is lower back which could give him a lot of grief, hopefully he is okay.

You would seriously hit someone on a bike and drive off?

here's some good advice:

If you do hit someone, backup and run over them to make sure they're dead. It will keep them from suing you for their medical bills and pain/suffering. (but get out afterwards to help as if you didn't mean to back up)

That is good advice, in a sick and twisted way, I guess...lol
