MMORPGs are not that great...

MMORPGs are getting boring to fast. That's not because there is no ending or the lack of challenge. It's just the fact that the battles are decided just by stats. A good game needs either a good storyline and/or a real challenge (which I define as a battle fought only with Skill).

Um

They are pretty much depressing, my boyfriend is an addict and he can pretty much ignore me when he plays, which can be for hours at a time..

Hmmm

They're ok every once in a while, but I prefer beating a game, I like an ending, I prefer console gaming.

yes!

Yes!!! I do love MMORPGs. The first MMORPG I played was the Pagnarok Online, then continued to Thor's Hammer: Gunbound to ROSE Online....
I never played the rest of the MMORPGs that are running rampant here in our country (philippines) like Flyff, Ran, & etc....they are all like Ragnarok Online. They never ending unlike normal RPGs. The quest to level-up, do quests (for ROSE Online), complete their equipment or be one of the best in the PvP mode or be noticed is one (if not) the goals of players who play MMORPG.
WoW & FFXI are the online games not rampant (or even not known) in our country, w/c is bad considering that these two are known in other countries. (i also love the FF & warcraft games)

PSO

I played PSO for DreamCast back in the day, not knowing what the hell a MMORPG (or whatever) was. After SEGA quit hosting that game, I had to move on...Everquest for PS2 caught my attention, then WoW, and nothing at all was like PSO, nothing was even good, honestly, but PSO was just fun as hell to play, even if you knew you weren't gettin to level 200 anytime soon, you didn't mind playing on the way. It's not mindless pressing X, it's action, and really interactive, and everything is in control of the player, not some pre-determined algorithm, and raising stats. Those run of the mill online rpg's don't entertain - they bore. PSO played like a real game, and then there happened to be this community you were a part of as you did that. It was more rewarding too, oh and did I mention that SEGA did it right on the dreamcast the first time by not charging ANYTHING for online play - that's right, all you needed was a phone cord. those were the days...damned capitalism

EVE Online

Try a MMORPG called EVE Online... it's really fun, you dont have to log on once a day to be good, but is REALLY complicated, and somewhat tedious during certain activities *cough*mining*cough*... and also bad things could technically happen to you, all within game rules, such as this: http://www.dragonscoveherald.com/blog/index.php?p=913

PS: Yes, that IS $16500 USD, REAL money... like, if you were to buy all those stuff on ebay or something, that's how much real money it'll cost you.

PPS: the link on that page as of right now has bandwidth exceeded... wait a while :P

theyre ok..

mmorpgs in general are way too time consuming.. i used to play WOW, FFXI, DAoC, and EQ.. if you play less than once every few days, you quickly find yourself left behind.. on top of that, monthly fees make the game DRAMATICALLY more expensive, and most of the time spent playing is grinding/farming/leveling.. in short, its more like a chore than a game

Why bother?

Am I the only one who uses games as a way to take a break from real people? I play games when I'm feeling antisocial; when I want to interact with real people, I get off the the computer. Even better, there's no monthly fee for that.

Bleh

When you have online games, if you don't play constantly, you get left behind... and then on top of that, if you have to pay a monthly fee... well, it's like having a job you have to pay for.

Cost

It's pretty simple -- If you need to pay monthly for a game, then you are getting a better play experience. Guild Wars, I assume, is all fine and good, but I have heard many things that make it so below WoW or, yes, even CoH, that make me not interested in it at all.

Then again, there are lot's of games that you can multiplay with for free that are fantastic. To me, though, those games are just random time consumers if you are bored with the game you are paying for for the night, or whatnot.

don't pay to play

I know a lot of MMORPG's out there that are free. I don't pay for any games that I play.
