A lot of people don't like getting gifts that take up space and don't fit their decor, but a consumable like soap from say the San Francisco Soap Company or whatever is really nice because they get a momento from a far off place, but then they can use it up and not have to display some chachki that they don't really want anyway. If it's a souvenir for yourself from a trip, I think journals can be nice, but really anything that has at least a dual purpose (like a piece of pottery from Mexico that you can use as a serving dish or even a coffee mug with a town's name on it or whatever). It sucks to get things that just sit there with some place name on them, clogging up space. Apparently I had a lot of feelings about souvenirs. |

Posted By: GirlUWant Posted On: Sep 11, 2005 Views: 936 | RE: Souvenirs My daughter brought back a really cool little metal lamp that lookds like the Eiffel tower from Paris that I think was a great choice, except for that the plug is for France and we haven't had it converted yet! lol |
Posted By: lameass Posted On: Sep 11, 2005 Views: 917 | RE: RE: RE: Souvenirs It's spelled tchotchke. Please respect the Yiddish, man. |

Posted By: Eve Posted On: Sep 11, 2005 Views: 897 | RE: Souvenirs Thanks Syrgot I didnt know what tchotchke meant either. |
Posted By: Syrgot Posted On: Sep 11, 2005 Views: 882 | RE: Souvenirs You're welcome. And lameass, I apologize for not correcting the spelling. At least I got the meaning from the phonetic version though, eh? |
Posted By: Sarah Posted On: Sep 11, 2005 Views: 879 | RE: Souvenirs Yeah, I know the proper spelling is tchotchke, but I usually go with the Office Space version. Remember that restaurant where the Jennifer Aniston character worked, kind of like a lame Friday's or something? It was called Chachki's and that always sticks in my head. Not that it matters, at any rate... The point is useless souvenirs suck. |
