They have the same toughness, same hardness, same crystal structure, same refractive index and same specific gravity. All corundums that aren't red are Sapphires, so you can have yellow sapphires, pink sappphires, blue sapphires, etc...but if is red, then it is a ruby. (I used to be a gemologist.) |
