WTF? Where I live, I can choose if my waiter/waitress deserved a tip or not as long as the party is under 6 people. Most of the service people I met while on my trip deserved every penny of their tip, but there was one I didn't feel deserved 15 or 20%--their work was that bad. The first place we had dinner (it was a very nice restaurant, the bill was over $200), the tip was not listed on the bill. So we paid on our card and left the tip in cash, a normal practice for us. But when we got home we found out that ANOTHER tip had been added to the card in addition to the one we left on the table! Now, I'm really not a cheapskate. I know that waiters and waitresses work hard for less than minimum wage and rely on their tips to make a living. I normally leave at least a 20% tip for decent service, more if it was outstanding. But I don't feel that I should be forced to reward poor service just because of the way the system works. And that's my $0.02. :) Anyone have any comments? |
