Guns don't kill people, presidents do.

What do the police feel about the current state of Canada. I don't mean media ga ga like "Guns are bad. Another disinfranchised youth dies because of a gun. Gun this, Gun that." Can we hear more about guns? Sure it's easier to kill a guy on the other side of the room with a gun, but by no means is that the only way to kill someone. Guns aren't the problem in Canada, not to say we don't need to address proper sentencing and restrictions. What I am saying is that the people who are causing these two kids to shoot at each other are the real problem. Back to my original point, what, if any direction, do the police feel the way the country should move? Do they support the Liberals (i have no idea what they are even running on, but they do have the nifty red signs) or the Conservatives (Tough on crime, clean up government, empower police) or NDP, etc.... I sure have heard how all the unions and special interest groups want me to vote.

Fundementals first

What I find interesting is when voters are more interested in voting for another party to spite a party they disagree with on ONE topic. Even though they may agree with that same party on several other key issues. Take Stephen Harper and his PC party. I hear people saying, "Sure I'm anti drugs, anti violence and anti crime, but even though I'm not gay, I support the idea of same sex marriage, so therefore I can't vote PC. Instead I will vote for another party that is pro same sex marriage but is also willing to sell my soul for $5."

People are so worried about being P.C. they are afraid to vote PC. A party which stands (from my perspective) for family values, protection of our country/children and god. To me, that is more important then appearing P.C.

Paul Martin Throwing In The Towel?

(Corrected Hyperlink)

I have seen several news pieces that appear to have Paul Martin conceding defeat? I guess even the prime minister knows that his time is up. (see bottom for source)

Its fine by me that Paul Martin is giving up. We need a leader in this country. We need a leader that will act on what is required to be done for Canada and its citizens best interests, instead of someone who will act when it's in their best political and personal interest to do so.

It's time for those of us who are willing to do what’s right, over what's easy, stand together.

God bless Canada and the world.

NDP!

At this point in the election Paul Martin is claiming an election promise of 'Robust Federalism'. Is this not what caused all this hub bub about fraud anyway? Wasn't the sponsorship scandal all about promoting federalism? Wouldn't it be ironic if we did elect him again and he did carry through on his election promise and give all our money away a second time. Canadians would be laughed at by every criminal group in the world. (and what I mean by laughed at, is actually preyed upon). Paul Martin talks about other parties stealing his ideas from him. How come we only hear about things prime ministers are 'supposed to do' during elections. If these are Paul Martins idea's, what is he waiting for? How come tax cuts come at election time? If it's a good idea for the country, why didn't you implement it when you were going to work 5 days a week? How come it just became a good idea now? Buying votes? Isn't this how shady things work too? If you do this for me I will give you this? Paul Martin, your a joke.

P.S. Make sure Paul Martin takes all the LEGAL guns off the streets! It makes it easier for us not to be able to defend ourselves. After all, if the cops, border guards and citizens don't get registered firearms, how on earth are the criminals ever going to get guns? It's not like they give out guns in south american countries when you buy kilo's of coke.

Undecided.

I agree Jen. I also agree with the idea of change. The liberals have been stuffing their faces with our money and claiming that they are entitled to it? They are riding on the coat tails of the American economy and claiming that Paul Martin had something to do with it? It's called politics for a reason people. Martin is like George Bush, whatever comes out of his mouth, reverse it and thats the truth. :)

What I don't understand is why Canadians appear to be so 'complacent'. Paul Martin steals your money, calls you fat and stupid, attempts on a regular basis to mislead you (Standing up for Canada against seperation and America, sure buddy) and people are still like, "ya but atleast I have my job at Walmart. More tax cuts for shipping companies, thats whay real Canadians need!"

It's funny because there is no money for more cops, tougher borders, your retirement, adding additional mental health beds and the building of low cost housing but their is $250 million that Canadians don't mind being give to the mob? If you vote Liberals on Jan 23rd you are actually contributing to the death of the last 'free' country in the world.

I may be undecided Jen, but I am pretty sure you can figure out who I am NOT going to vote for. Merry Christmas to everyone.

There are choices!

It seems there's a lot of conservatives in the comments here (or the last 10 or so I read).

I don't get why so many people only think most Canadians have only to choose between Liberal and Conservative (Québec gets the additional option of BQ).

There are other options. Green, NDP, heck most ridings even have Marxist-leninist candidates!

My vote is for the NDP because I do think they are a viable option, and I don't think I'll be throwing my vote away at all by doing so!

Don't just vote on instinct - read up on all the parties' platforms.

My Money!

I am sick of MY hard earned, over taxed dollars disappearing from the federal, provincial and city governments via shady accounting and bad contracts. Sponsorship scandal? Call it what it is. A group of people, including our countries top leaders, have masterminded a way to steal $250+ million dollars from us. Is anyone going to jail for this? Especially those who are responsible? No.

What you will hear is people questioning if we should spend the millions of dollars to try and free the people of Canada from a corrupt government that has stolen $250+ million from it's 33 million citizens. The same citizens who are unsure where social security is going to come from, but are sure they are going to re-elect Paul Martin and the Liberals? I think all of Canada can understand why our calls from the federal government to protect us from criminals is going unanswered. TAX MONEY IS YOUR MONEY. THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT AND PAUL MARTIN HAVE STOLEN YOUR MONEY. Stand up Canada!

Time For A Change

I like the platform Stephen Harper is taking. Finally, someone who is willing to try and stem the growth of organized crime + systematic corruption of our country and the enslavement of our children in the wildly unknown but large "Slave Sex Trade In Canada". Thanks for not running on the "Let's cut taxes and talk about some bull**** trade disputes." Lets talk about crime and corruption. Thats what destroying our moral fiber Canada. As Mr. Harper is trying to do for you without you knowing you and your children need it. STAND UP FOR CANADA! Free our children from the sex trade! This election vote PC!

Questions and Comments

Hey everyone,

The reason why the Green party is not allowed in the debate but the Bloc are is that the Bloc has won a seat. Traditionally the way it works is that to be in the leaders debate you would have had to have won a seat in teh house of commons the previous electioin. Canada has 12 different registered political parties each as deserving as the Green Party. The only thing that the media can do from keeping out the communist paty, libertarian party, canadian action party, heritage party ECT. ECT. ECT. is to make it a prerequisate for one seat. THey did the same thing with the Reform Party of Canada. They werent allowed in until the won a seat in a by election then the next campaign they were allowed to have a leader in teh debate. Now to be a registered party you have submit a fee to teh government and run enough candidates in a selected number of ridings. (I dont rememebr the exact number) it doesnt matter WHERE the ridings are located just that youhave a certain numnber of people running under the banner. Lastly the person squaking that elections are a waste of money, go live in North Korea. You will eb very happy there, you will never have to experience an election again. Elections , and their cost, are the cost of democracy and when the people elected a minority government into parliment they knew that it would happen soon. This election is very needed to finally get the Liberal hand outta the cookie jar.

Paul 'I've done nothing wrong" Martin

I'd explain how you can manipluate all facet's of life in Canada with a couple of million Lira and 50 years but I'd be wasting my time. Not because your dumb, but because you just wouldn't understand. What do you care that your neighbours kids have been forced into prostitution, as long as you have a job. Way to support the mob Canada!

Bloc & Green?

Sandi & JB:

I've been scratching my head over that one for weeks now and it seems NOBODY can give me a good answer...or for that matter, *ANY* answer to that question at all.

AFAIC this election is a joke and a waste of taxpayer's money. Harper is just trying to make a name for himself. There's no way in you-know-what he'll EVER be the Prime Minister of Canada and I'll be drinking my beer, eating my popcorn and laughing my butt off when he is soundly defeated and has to resign his position as "leader" of the Conservative Party on January 23rd. :)

We all know what's gonna happen. We'll end up with another minority Liberal government...and we'll all be a little poorer for it.

*shakes head & shrugs*

Poverty

I live on "disability" which is well below the poverty level and not one of these politicians have said what is going to be done for us! They can give themselves raises of 12 1/2% while we got 3% and that took them 3 months because their multimillion dollar computers couldn't figure out 3% of 100. They do nothing but steal from the people. The reason I'm voting PC is because they haven't had a chance to steal from us and maybe in their 4 yrs in office somethings will actually get done for us before they also learn how to rip off the people of this country we call Canada.

Sandi's comment

I also have been thinking about that exact situation. Can anyone explain in a quick, short, condensed way;
1. How a political party can qualify to run in a Federal election when they only run in one province?
2. Why is the Green Party
not invited/recognized by the media(?)as a federal political party?
