Pay Raises

The private sector uses performance to justify a pay raise. Based on the performance of our dysfunctional state legislature..thy should get a BIG pay CUT!
How dare them even consider a pay raise vote when this state is in disarray.
If the downstate members don't like the pay, then they should resign and work in the public sector.

State Legislative pay raises

We here in the Southern Tier are experiencing difficulty with keeping industry here. There are job losses, and those with jobs are not working full time for the most part, hence, no benefits.
This is no time for a pay raise. Almost 80 thousand a year, along with whatever perks added, is adequate enough for our legislators. Taxes here are horrendous! Forget the pay raise, leggies. Get our economy going first.

WoW! the legislatures from the Buffalo vote no on pay raise. They fully knew that it would pass from the vote of the down staters. They think that this makes them look good in voting no.They get the raise and some of us praise them for the no vote. Not me this is poltics at its worst.Look at me aint I wonderfull for voting no I can buy more xmas gifts this year, your overpaid Senator.

Pay Raises

The The last I checked no one held a gun to these politician heads to run for offices.

If $79,500 is not enough money I guess they (the politicians) have a problem. They should have thought about that before they ran for office. We can not let their problems become our problems.

Hello politicians, I am starting to wonder that if we add all your IQ's together we would be hard pressed to get to 100. Wake Up and get a sense of reality.

God help us!!

raises

Thank you channel 2 for excellent reporting on this matter. I do myself work for goverment on a small scale. I have to be accountable for my pay raises and the reason for it to the people of my town.
The people of this area should be ashamed to post bad comments on this subject though because they are the ones that keep putting these officials back in office year after year. If I were to do a bad job I would be out of one, next election I'll bet. once again keep up the excellent work channel 2

Honestly,

Does the cost differential between upstate and down determine a pay raise for both faculties? Yes, It may very well be more costly down state but what happens with the millions of dollars in bridge toll revenue received daily from the GW bridge? Those funds certainly don't go for repairs. I've crossed that bridge many of times and not once has it been worked on. On the other hand what happens with all of the toll moneys collected on the mainline thruway.
Is this all to pay the Gate keepers? If I had a say in this matter I personally would divide the state. Can NYC survive as its own entity? Will upstate thrive as a burdened municipality? Does any of this constitute a pay raise? Personally I am lucky to see a cost of living raise. Seven times my rate of pay for manual labor, now does that seem fair?

Legislature Pay Raises

So the WNY contingient will take the "high road" and vote down the raise, knowing that their downstate compadres will approve it, thus raising their base salary and ensuring a nice juicy pension for when they're ready to throw in the towel (because these politicians know that once they're elected, they're set for life - even embezzlers like Hevesi are returned to office by the voters of this great state.) Nice to see someone is benefitting from this state's total domination by downstate interests.

Just because the downstate people have ot pay the carzy prices to live does not make it right for state legislators to expect to make more than the people.

They were meant to be servants of the people not have the people be servants to them.

legislature pay raises

no way to more pay! Pay the teachers, police, and fire fighters first. We have been working under a wage freeze since 2003! Many Buffalo public school teachers have purchased homes in Buffalo under a waiver of occupancy requiring them to live in the city as a condition of thier job. Most of us have thousands of dollars in student loans thanks to the state legislature's mandate that we earn a masters' degree within 6 years of teaching fulltime in the city. Futher, the legislature mandated that teachers take several expensive exams and pay $145 to take a video of themselves teaching to send the dept. of state education just to "qualify" for permanent certification! The legislature constantly places more and more expensive demands on teachers, and it's time we place some demands on them. No pay raise!

It seems all the western new york legislators are against the pay raise. When it gets passed by the downstate legislators, lets see who accepts the raise. If you don't vote for it, you should not be entitled to it.

PAYRAISES

Are the politicians in NY so out of touch with reality or just arrogant? Pay Raises?? Didn't they know what the job payed before they chose to run? Reality check time....This is what the position pays...PERIOD! If it's not enough then don't run! What part of this don't they understand? All raises for politicians should be part of a public referendum...ON Election Day, not snuck in afterwards. Shame on ALL of them for even considering this blatant moneygrab at the expense of every taxpayer in this state!!!

Pay Raises

We don't have enough jobs in this area, and they want pay raises. On top of that they want to close our hospitals, where many more people will be out of jobs. What about the little people that can barely get by? I say eliminate some of their jobs and spread those salaries around. Why is it they need this raise, so they can pay the taxes they hwant to boost?

Pay Raises

I think it's time to seperate upstate from downstate. I know it will never happen but I see many reasons for a seperation. The difference in economies is striking and the needs of downstate will only increase as time goes on. A pay raise for a legislature that is rated as the worst in the nation, and already the second highest paid is typical for the problems of this area and state. The raise will go thru and we will re-elect them again! Bye NY is the answer most of my friends have already practiced. Maybe me next?? Thank you Channel 2 Keep up the GREAT work!

Mr Volker

Mr Volker Thinks he is above reproach about anything he deems that he will not answer, He is a employee of the people of NYS and that being said he should answer questions about how our money is spent.

WRGZ acting on behalf of the people of Erie County has every right to question what votes are about to taken place and how our representatives plan to vote.

Raises

I lived downstate. $79k downstate is nothing. What is so difficult to understand about this? Downstate legislators are voting yes, WNY legislators are voting no. Volker is voting no. Is this in any way unclear? The disdain for elected officials is so misguided, it borders on insanity. If you can do a better job, go out next election, get a packet of petitions, get elected and do the job better. In essence, put up or shut up.
