| Posted By: Manoli Posted On: Sep 24, 2006 Views: 1248 | The British Royals The British Royals do represent a very vital part of the nation's history, but this history is not likely to disappear simply because the Royal Family does not exist. The Royal Family lives off the money of taxpayers, living their life freely, without inhibitions, unaware of the amount of work that goes into the money they spend. Younger members of the Royal Family, (Prince Harry being a prime example) are not representatives of the United Kingdom, and their constant misbehavior in the public world is often a cause for embarrassment. Name a good reason as to why the common taxpayer should support these idiosyncrasies? |

But having read some European history in high school and now studying international relations, I respect and admire the great Catholic monarchs of past centuries such as Mary Stuart, James II, Louis IX, Isabella and Ferdinand (who helped discover America), the Hapsburg dynasty, Louis and Marie Antoinette, and others. They guarded, preserved and handed down Catholic European civilization. Unfortunately the godless French Revolution unraveled much of what they had done, and its disastrous results are affecting Europe today. Monarchy's not a bad thing; Great Britain should retain this tradition--and especially the Catholic faith behind it. |

| Posted By: Posted On: Mar 13, 2001 Views: 1547 | I'm a bit of a fence sitter - I quite like having a royal family but I'm buggered if I'm going to start bowing and scraping to anyone just because they've got a different family from mine ! They seem a pleasant enough bunch though, mostly. |
| Posted By: Posted On: Oct 16, 2000 Views: 1537 | No I think it would cause turmoil.Let it fade until there's no issue.I think the Monarchy will slowly dissolve.Or should be slowly dissolved |
| Posted By: Posted On: Oct 3, 2000 Views: 1529 | I think you should have to earn your way to run the country, not just be born into royal blood. |
| Posted By: Posted On: Aug 3, 2000 Views: 1518 | No way, the Monarchy makes the United Kingdom special and holds a place in all American's heart. I'm not even a WASP but I admire the Royal Family and all that it stands for. Long live the Royal Family |
| Posted By: Posted On: Jul 26, 2000 Views: 1508 | they are a symbol without power |
| Posted By: Posted On: Jul 4, 2000 Views: 1319 | The role of Head of State is largely symbolic anyway so what difference is there? Sure the Royals are expensive but would a President be without expense? Monarchy steeped in history or some has-been politician? No contest. |
