Don't get me wrong, I'm a gun owner and am proud of my sport- that's right sport. Here in Oz, we like target shooting, pest control (ie feral pigs and the like) and general hunting. From what I see in the US there is an unhealthy focus on guns for self defence and "keeping your country free". I mean come on, with your aresenal of nukes and conventional weapons what standing army is going to invade you? In all honesty you NEED tighter gun laws. Handguns, miltary self loaders- what are they for? What's wrong with your society if you even need to consider carrying around a gun to feel safe? |
| Posted By: David Nicholson Posted On: Oct 21, 2001 Views: 617 | Gun Free School Zone As a retired high school principal with many years experience in dealing with weapons at school I can attest that this law is laden with danger for the average law abiding citizen while doing nothing to halt weapon possession at school. Liberals will eventually attempt to enforce this law with "sweeps" finding hunting/target firearms in law abiding citizens' vehicles. They will, in turn, be charged with felonies and their firearms confiscated. Even though there was no crime intended media types will feast on the "dangers of weapons" in private hands. This law needs to be repealed. If one wants to attack "weapons at school" then orient students to sharing what they know when they see a weapon. Our research indicated less than 12% of high school seniors would share with administrators or law enforcement personnel the knowledge of where a weapon was on campus if they knew of said weapon. There is the problem. Social responsibility must be based on moral development - not some "gun free zone" law that is nothing short of entrapment. Respectfully, David Nicholson |
