Smoking in public places

My mother suffers from emphysema and cannot walk. When I take her out shopping using her wheel chair she panics because of all of the smokers outside shops and pubs. As we walk past them she is forced to inhale second hand smoke which makes her choke and unable to breathe easily for about ten minutes afterwards. She herself was a smoker for about 45 years which has caused this terrible disease.

Proposed Block of Flats

Do you know that a "fat cat" developer based in London's Mayfair has aquired land on corner of Tunbury Avenue and Fosington Lane and is seeking planning permission to build 14 two-bedroom flats.

This junction is already dangerous and T&M BC still won't install traffic lights. Such a development would be horrendous! With children crossing, God help them!

The proposed plans show a tower block design totally incompatible with the surroundings and allow for ONE car parking space per flat only - yet more cars parked on the road?

Affordable homes? I doubt it, at estimated £200K.

It goes before planning committee soon. Write and object NOW before its too late!

Ipton Lane Development

Further to Phil's comment (March) Just to set record straight, the re-newed planning application is NOT for a Table Tennis centre. That concept did not get required funding. It would appear that the developers are just renewing the application which would have elapsed after 5 years. You can bet your life they will submit plans for more housing

Scout hall/International table tennis centre,hotel

The opinion poll currently gives the not sure people some 7%. To them it depends on what is being built. Be sure that these proposed plans are not fo local use. The table tennis centre is a huge development with an arena for some 450 people. There will be a conference centre, retaurant, bar, and gym. We have enough of these around here. Once the permision has been granted the developers can build what they like. Boxley Council have yet to buy the land for so called recreational use. The same council has approved plans for the huge sports centre.

There are plans to sell off Buckmore park for housing and planning permission for the old scout place for 14 houses once they move here.
Boxley and maidstone council have said one thing then done the other. I say do not trust these councils and oppose these developments anyway we can.

Let us keep Impton lane a rural wooded area. The land opposite the plateauon the west sid junction of Walderslade Woods Road has been earmarked for an old peoples home.

Keep Impton Beautiful

Speed cameras

Read this the other day, sums up the speed camera issue

BY: Dr Stuart Turnbull, Oxford

Goebbels said that a lie told often enough becomes truth. That seems to have happened with speed cameras. Susan Beck, of the National Safety Camera Liaison, said these cameras save lives, but there is little evidence. Road deaths in France and Germany from 1990 to 2002 have declined steadily. In the UK, after an initial drop before 1994, the year speed cameras were introduced, there has been no significant decline. The small fall that has occurred could be attributed to improvements in car design.
France and Germany have no speed cameras and both have higher speed limits on main arterial roads. Germany has no limits on some autobahns. Since the 55mph limit went in the United States no rise in road deaths has been recorded and this is also true for the three Canadian provinces that scrapped speed cameras.
Recent government-backed research claims to show a relationship between mean speed and accident frequency, but European research showed no significant relationship.
The government has been keen to blame speed because it does not want to spend more on roads. If the death rate reduction in the UK between 1989 and 1994 had been maintained the number of deaths during the past eight years would have been cut by 1,000.

SPEED CAMERA - WATERWORKS HILL

It points up, it points down, as they change it all around.
With no markings on the path, is it active or a faff?
Most drivers slow when they see it, but to those who don't, any tickets?
All I ask, is all drive safe and don't become an ambulance case!

[with apologies to poets world wide LOL]

Walderslade Village Sign

I think the sign is fine although rather small. But we shouldn't complain seeing as it was paid for by BOXLEY parish council!

As for the views on "Best Schools", maybe the standard of replies, spelling and grammar sums it all up! This is the generation I am relying upon to look after me in my dotage..........Heaven forbid! (no pun intended Malcolm!)
