| Posted By: john Posted On: Oct 4, 2004 Views: 651 | blackjack As to the question of whether one should hit or stand when one is in possession of a ten and seven, the house having 8:Put simply, stand! If one reflects firstly on the inherent advantage of "blackjack" to the house we realise that the advantge lies primarily in the fact that we(the player)must draw first. In this instance the dealer(assuming we do the right thing and stand!)is forced to draw first.Alas, this reversal of roles is somewhat neglible. But we may account for our decision to stand more justifiably, by engaging the dicta of basic strategy (heretofore BS).This BS system is the result of millions of hands simulated on appropriate computer software providing us with the best possible responses to any given scenario. The given scenario, player having ten and seven with the dealer having an eight could almost be responded to by intuition alone. But this is a cardinal sin!Consider,by way of evidence some more radical scenarios:dealer has six(his worst possible card) and you have six and two giving you a hard total of eight.Intuitively we might assume that by drawing another card all we can do is increase our hard total.Drawing another card cannot "bust" us.However the correct response in this situation assuming we are working from zero memory strategy and not card counting is to stand.By so doing the dealer has a proven greater mathematical chance of busting than had we hit.The key to skilled blackjack requires reason not intuition. Because in some instances the stakes are simply too high to go with a hunch! |

| Posted By: Tony Kenny Posted On: Jul 31, 2003 Views: 665 | Blackjack I work in the industry. You have to play the game the same way every hand (consistant) you stay on 13 (12 you should pull but optional)or more against 2,3,4,5,6 and pull or hit against 7 or more. Its 9/4 you pull a 10 thats 9 cards against 4 10's per suit. |
