Mj

i can't believe i'm agreeing with the 12 year old on this one but he's abslutely right. Michael Jordan no doubt about it. He played his most dominating basketball when the nba was the most talented and at its fastest. now its all about n**** ball and who can dunk the prettiest. Mj could dunk pretty and do all the other fundamentals to go along with it.

Wilt

No one will ever come close to #13. 100 points ina game. 55 board in a game(against Russell- the greatest defensive player of all time), 50.4 points per game/ 4,029 points, 27.2 rebounds per game, assist title..........WILT IS THE BEST EVER. PERIOD.

Jordan over-hyped shoe-salesman

Wilt is simply the greatest player ever!(Magic second) He had less of an height advantage on average at center than Jordan or Magic enjoyed at the guard position! He was simply better at more areas of the game and only KG can match his athleticism(maybe the Admiral) as a true 7-footer. The NBA implemented several rules to help teams in containing Wilt while Jordan was pampered and rules were changed to assist their golden egg. They should have implemented zone defenses(that would have taken from Jordan's slashing style)) in the 80's to stop the league from degenerating into the one-on-one hell it is today. The NBA and fans sickening love affair with Jordan ruined the NBA. See Team USA.

Jordan is the best EVER

Let me tell you idiots about Michael Jordan.
No player has ever won Defensive Player of The Year and MVP both over their whole career. Jordan did it in one season (1988). I know Wilt avg 50.4 ppg. in 1962 but Jordan led the leauge in scoring 7 straight times and 10 times over his whole career. Tell me how many athletes have video tributes in their 6th year of play. He also has far more endorsement deals than any other person in the history of sports. Before he retired the first time in 1993, he had already had 3 championships with three more waiting, 7 straight scoring titles with three of those also waiting in the future. He'd had an all-star selection every year except when he was injured, and an NBA playoff record 63 points, 3 MVPs with 2 more waiting, a Defensive Player of the Year, 1 all-star MVP where he set a record 40 points, also with 2 more to come, not to mention he also had 2 slam-dunk championships. He also had many more records. Now all of these things happened in 9 years. Now remember, Jordan is the greatest of all time and all this information is coming from a 12 year old boy.

my #1 pick

My #1 pick with out a doubt is him, I mean him, if you still have ??????'s in your head,it's MJ. Although through the years we have seen a lot of great players, the one we saw in the 80's and 90's was unique. MJ, showed us a new way to play the game. He made us love the game even more. The only draw back to that is that it's hard to watch the game in his absence.

Where's Dr J?

Methinks Dr J (Julius Irving) is missing from the list.

Best NBA player ever

Michael Jordan MAY very well be the best basketball player ever - he's certainly a candidate.

But you have to consider "the competition" when a basketball player is in the NBA.
Michael Jordan was far-and-away the best player in the NBA when he was in his prime Who can you compare him with - when MJ was getting his rings? Barkley? Malone? Ewing? Gimme me a break - Michael had no peer (in his time).

Magic and Bird (the Celtics and the Lakers were the best finals to watch ever - hands down!).
If Magic wasn't in the NBA when Bird was playing (or vice versa), the team with Magic/Bird would have won 8 straight titles! 8 STRAIGHT!

And please don't bring up how Jordan/Bulls beat Magic/Lakers in the Finals one year - Jordan was hitting his prime - Magic was past his --- Magic had whipped Mike's butt for years after Jordan joined the NBA before that Finals matchup late in Magic's career.

Jerry West (my pick - best pure shooter ever - if the 3-point had been around back then, he'd own it) matched up against the Big O (Oscar Robertson).
Bill Russell fought Wilt Chamberlain head to head.

Shouldn't Russell be the winner - he's got the most rings?
Or then again, Jerry West - the only NBA player to be voted MVP on the team that LOST in the FINALS - 1968-69:
http://www.nba.com/finals2002/List_of_Champions-46049-277.html

Again, if Magic IN HIS PRIME or Bird IN HIS PRIME had been around when MICHAEL JORDAN was winning championships with the Bulls, I don't think Mike would have ended up with as many rings as he did. No peer in the NBA - when MIKE was in his prime.
So - I'm not saying that Michael Jordan ISN'T the best player of all time
- just CONSIDER WHO ELSE WAS PLAYING WHEN MICHAEL WAS KING!

My vote is for MR. CLUTCH (Jerry West)!!!
