How could you totally omit Carl Lewis from the list. He is the greatest athlete in olympic history. That's the voice of a Canadian speaking.

football (soccer)

Football (soccer) is by far the greatest sport in the world. Non of the big American sports can compete with football, wich is the major sport in almost every Central and South American, European, Asian or African country. The World Cup draws as much as ten times the total amount of viewers compared to the Olympics.
The dullest football-final of all time must be Brazil-Italy in 1994. This is the only football game stated among the 60 greatest games.
This guy is crazy or doesn't know there is more than one country in the world. The EU alone has more inhabitants and a bigger economy than the USA. Manchester United is the biggest sports club in the world (by economy and supporters).

Non-major sports

How ridiculously Ameri-centric this pole is.

No matter what you American's think, baseball and American football are not major sports (world wide). Even basketball and ice hockey have a lot of trouble ftting this description.
Athletics (track and field, but especially track) is the world's major sport. Virtually every child that ever attends a school anywhere in the world will run in a race and te talented will be recognized and developed. Very few will ever take part in a baseball game. The major sporting event in the world is the Olympic Games and the major events in the Games are the track and field events. The winner's here are truly the best in the world (even if they are not Americans).

Cricket world wide is as popular a sport as baseball (it's virtually a religion to 800 million Indians) so if you are looking for the greatest sporstman look no further than Australia's late Don Bradman whose career batting average is over 50% higher than the next best. To put it into baseball perspective for you, to equal his feat Ty Cobb's would need a career average of .537 !

Bradman was described by one of his great rivals as just not a once in a life-time player but a player once in the life-time of a game.

You have two Australians on your list. Margaret Court and Rod Laver. Both are Australian sporting icons. However when Australians greatest sportsman or sportswoman is discussed there is no argument - Bradman is number one, no one else is mentioned. Bradman was so highly thought of thast he was the first living Australian
to have his face on an Australian stamp. Prior to this it had been the preserve of the Monarch.

Rod Laver does rank highly but is matched by Herb Elliott. When Australian women are discussed Margaret Court also ranks highly but the winner is always Dawn Fraser who won the 100 metres freestyle at three consecutive Olympics, a feat matched only once.

These poles are interesting but very limited. It's like the "shot heard round the world" by Bobby Thompson (I think that was his name) - it was heard only in America. I looked in English and Australian newspapers - not a mention of it.

SO THESE POLES ARE FOR THE GREATEST EXPONENTS OF AMERICAN SPORTS.
