Elizabeth Browning's sonnet 43 obviously is a love poem but the most
fascinating thing about the poem is the fact that the persona expresses
her love in an extremely intense manner yet very simple language. The
poet is able to keep the readers captivated because she does not use any
elaborate metaphor to describe the love of the persona.Although she uses
simile, the two things compared are absolutely comprehensible to
students of literature and non-students of literature alike. The sonnet
talks about the wish of every humanbeing, that is to be loved "freely"
and "purely" without any strings attached to the love.
