| Dub cliche, intended as irony or not?
A frustrating inconsistent effort. The production is incredibly sharp
and this is rammed with quality names, on paper it looks truly amazing.
But the creativity of Sherwood's 80's produced sounds and the sci-fi dub
of Never Trust a Hippy is in extremely limited supply. This, frankly,
boring album is made teeth gnashingly bad by the vocal contributions.
School children could have come up with lyrics with more brevity and the
same groaningly obvious rhymes are repeated again and again throughout
the over-long tracks. This part of the album could have done with a much
more stripped down appoach.
My disc had a 2nd disc of dubs and remixes. I find these more listenable
but rarely stretch to having any kind of emotional impact at all.
Heavy criticism of this album but it seemed so pointless and I expected
so much more from one of my favourite English producers.
