40 year old virgin

This movie was terrible. The stupidity of the plot, wherein a woman who appears to be just out of college, with minor future and a stoner having a baby, and then being forced to DATE and END UP togetheris ridiculous. The failure to comprehend even minor financial risks, the complete lack of reality in the relationship between the two main characters, the rose colored glasses, the health insurance, the new, on-screne job. Also, it gave me nightmares about getting knocked-up. The only part that i liked was the guys relationship.

Virgins vs Babies: Cage Match!!

While Steve Carell shined in 40YOV, Seth Rogan really shows his acting chops here, allowing his supporting cast to take the limelight. Knocked Up feels more raw and open, which makes it more accessible in my opinion. The only part I didn't like about Knocked Up was that it seemed strictly content with showing the male's side of this issue, when it's in a perfect place to handle both genders' point-of-view. Granted, Apatow is a guy, so it would be difficult, but there are many a male who channeled their femininity to the screen: John Hughes and Cameron Crowe, for example.

Virgin: Funnier / Knocked: Better Emotional Impact

It evens out. Both were funny and touching. Virgin was funnier (esp. more extended laugh out loud moments) but Knocked Up had more emotional impact esp. at the end and certainly had some effective "dark" moments as wel.

Agree that Mann deserves acclaim... as do Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen. It'd be a shame if Judd Apatow doesn't score at least a screenplay Oscar nom for this.
