| Posted By: Blake Marshall Posted On: Aug 22, 2007 Views: 354 | That Voice Scarlett Johansson is a capable actor and no one could argue that she isn't easy on the eyes; however, her voice leaves much to be desired. I knew there was something about her that I couldn't quite put my finger on until I saw her in Michael Bay's debacle "The Island." That voice! It sounds as if she swallows a Brillo-pad before every scene. Is she a smoker? She crosses the line of a dark femme-fatale siren into the lesser realms of a 50 year old asthmatic bartender. Can anyone else agree with me on this? Adam? Sam? Cheers, ~Blake |

Johansson would have made a great silent movie star--she's beautiful and her face is very expressive, but she reads dialog with no conviction whatsoever. I wonder if they could have someone overdub her lines, like they did for Andie MacDowell in Tarzan. |
| Posted By: Claudie Posted On: Aug 19, 2007 Views: 565 | Scarlett Johansson: Where did you go? While I loved her in Ghost World and Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring, lately I have found her recent performances to be quite pedestrian and of varied quality - Matchpoint and The Prestige (grating), Scoop and The Black Dahlia (uninteresting) and In Good Company (unexceptional). I love the Scarlett Johansson who played misfits and eccentrics, characters who I could sympathise and respond to. As a sexpot or an ingenue, I don't think she's very effective and unfortunately thats that kind of roles she's been cast in lately. Its a pity that while she's marketed as one of the sexiest, most intriguing actresses today, I now fail to find her remotely interesting or charismatic on-screen. |
