Spidey's decision and new direction

I can't blame JMS much for this decision, but I have mixed feelings overall about Spider-Man. The good news: The new direction is the best-written core Spider-Man book in years (and yes, I blame JMS for one horrendous decision after the other, too many to list here). The bad news: I wasted a lot of money on on Spidey comics over the last few years, and now none of that stuff has happened? What a copout by Marvel. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad some of these things may have been struck from history, such as: (a) Gwen Stacy's decision to sleep with Norman Osborn and having kids (uh, what?), (b) Marvel's need to give Spidey organic web shooters, (c) Spidey's death and (basically) unexplained rebirth, which tied into (d) all the totem BS. And personally I'm glad MJ is out of the picture. I just think their marriage made for boring comics, more often than not. Bottom line: Spidey should be better from here on out; it's just a shame that this is how we had to get here.
