reponse to comment

I thought I would respond as the person who is the webmaster and who put this on this site:

The list is not trying to say anything. It is a light hearted look at famous people, some of whom, are seen as positive role models for the LGBT community.

It is not meant as a definitive or exhaustive list of everyone who may or may not be popular with the LGBT community, or shed light on how wonderful or positive people have been when making money 'from' or making money 'for' the LGBT community. That would be a silly exercise as no one will ever agree.

So the question is why no Boy George? Why no Sylvester? Good question, I had space for 20 names and therefore chose 20. Why not make your own list and post a link to that webpage on here for all to see.

Why these people?

But who made up this shortlist and based oln what??? Why not another dozen over-the-top women singers we're constantly being told are 'gay icons' because cabaret artistes imitate them (Tina Turner, Mariah Carey); or more musicians who are individually gay but don't make stereotypically 'gay' music (Michael Stipe, Rufus Wainwright, Antony Hegarty, Andy Wakelin, Rob Halford, that bloke out of Ocean Colour Scene whose name escapes me)? Or why no Elton or Freddie Mercury, probably bigger gay stars to straight audiences than a million Steven Gatelys? Why no Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Sylvester, Boy George or Andy Bell who changed the way pop saw gay people? Why not the stars that every gay claims "is" one of us?? (Robbie Williams, this means you). I don't get what the list is trying to say.
