New Appointment at MarAd

There is hope in Washington! The recent appointment of Kevin Tokarski as Associate Administrator for National Security was a good choice. Kevin has worked hard and is a credit not only to MarAd, but the Throg's Neck Tech (aka Fort Schuyler) as well. Good luck and full ahead Kevin! Wish there was some way you could hook me up with an inside track to the Superintendents position at Kings Point. Hasn't been a real practical professional mariner there at the helm since Tom King retired.

The demise of HapagLloyd

It looks like another legend of the high seas will soon slip beneath the waves. HapagLloyd, a stalwart of German prowess on the seas has seen a gradual slip since its management by a non shipping entity of investors. It is a shame that the Hanseatic State of Hamburg could not muster enough suport to buy them out and keep them in Hamburg in the same fashion that GL was saved by a patriotic German businessman. The waterfront along the Alster will never be the same if NOL assumes control of this seagoing legend.
