Though i have to hope; if our fighting against discrimination of blacks has led us to this point - having the first black president of the USA - then if we all keep fighting against discrimination against the LGBT community, (or discrimination against *anybody* for that matter) one day we will see the kind of change and progress we're seeing today through Obama's election. Something even 20 years ago we might not have believed we'd all see. Marian, Darrell, Ron, Kendra, (and so many more) maybe the country wasn't ready today, but i know it *will* be ready one day soon. |
| Posted By: grannymelissa Posted On: Nov 4, 2008 Views: 809 | evility of prop 8 To Marian, Hi, i'm here in So Cal hoping, praying *and* voting for the failure of Prop 8 as well. If it does your heart any good to know this, here's a story for you: My husband and i got of the freeway and totally lost in San Diego the other day, and as we rounded various corners, i was disheartened and angered at passing 5 to 10 people holding "yes on 8" signs. They all had grouchy, stern, even threatening looks on their faces, and i did my best to glare back and made it known that i disagreed vehemently. But just as i was about to get totally bummed out and exasperated at the fear and hate, and "why, oh dear husband of mine, WHY would anybody want to deny happiness and a legal, loving union to *anybody* who was fortunate enough to find their soulmate in a world so hurting for real, true love??" we rounded the next intersection - And there, on all 4 corners, must have been 30 to 40 poeple on each one, hundreds in all, holding "NO on 8!" signs. Fighting and cheering for equality. And, in stark contrast to the somber, mean faces i saw on the "yes" people, all of the hundreds of "No" supporters - women, men, old and young, children and teens - all were smiling, cheering, waving. So much hope for the happiness of others. My husband and i rolled down the windows, honked the horn, waved, cheered, clapped and gave the thumbs up. We all were bonded in this big moment of "woo-hoo!" and laughter. And after that, my hopes were restored that the people of California will choose love over fear and hate. LOTS of us want that for all of you and for the world in general. Keep the faith. :) |

Please please please let Obama win and let Sarah Palin go back to Alaska with her guns, 6-packs and "Tina Fey glasses". I can't stand that woman. I wish someone would slap that obnoxious "Ain't got no clue" smile off her face! |
