If I'm going to leave paradise-for-only-three-months Montana in August, it's not going to be for foul humid places like DC, Orlando, Birmingham, or Austin. If we must meet in the south now and then (and probably we do to make meetings accessible to members in those areas), then please, please move the meeting to October. Even better, have it in October all the time and leave my summer free! SAA should note that some of the best-attended meetings *ever* were Denver (2000) and San Francisco (2008). Yes, the 1997 meeting in Orlando was at a Disney hotel. It was beyond awful. As a young professional who couldn't afford the conference hotel (I believe that was the first in our series of $200 +/night hotels), I found I had the world's greatest networking tool: a car. When people found out that I could get them Out Of There, I always had someone to visit with at lunch or dinner. |
