Emancipation & Independence

I work hard & take few vacations, but I appreciate my history and am proud of my culture. The mighties societies are those that never forget from whence they came, but use it as a stepping stone for greatness.

Independen Day And Emancipation Day Reply

In reply to Bmags comment. I am a Jamaican living in Scotland which forms apart of the United Kingdom, and I can safely tell you that they have more Bank holidays and celebrations than I can keep up with and when they are not celebrating that, they the Scottish people are celebrating some form of holiday which shows their Britishness.

These Jamaican holidays are not for people to take vacations (Independence and Emancipation Day) but to remember and bring to the fore front our past and what it meant to be free from our slave masters and to show the progress that we as a nation and black race have had to endure and survive so that we might be able to progress towards the future, these celebration are for our children and their children so they must not forget but remember the struggles their forefathers face and what they must face as one nation under god.

Lest you forget, these celebration is also for you who writes so freely and mocks the idea of independence and emancipation not knowing that they are different and not one and the same. Our Motto Out of Many We Are One, shows the maturity of our people to accept each other as Jamaicans without apology and in that same breath you mention the USA a place that struggles with racism from the day of its inception.

I wont be able to come home to celebrate with my people because today I have to work to make sure my boy in Jamaica never forget what the struggle was all about.

Holiday Celebrations

The result of the poll is a good indication that the majority of Jamaicans do not mind living off people who work hard and take few vacations each year.

The US$1.2B being borrowed by the country to pay its debts was earned by people in countries where unnecessary celebrations are not a way of life.
