| Posted By: Karine Posted On: July 7th Views: 392 | GaGa all the way I agree with Braden and I'll go for Lady GaGa. She's a lot like Madonna in that her music is sexy and toungue-in-cheek instead of tacky. And by tacky I mean spelling out F. U. C. K. me in the title of your latest single (yes, I mean Britney's). I really don't understand her appeal; she's been doing the same thing for ten years, she's on the verge of becoming a joke like Michael Jackson was in his final years and HER VOICE IS SO ANNOYING! and her lyrics are so shallow. At least Madonna polished her vocals in the nineties and her lyrics make statements. Now, if GaGa doesn't last, then I'll go for Christina or Kylie. Christina has emulated a lot of Madonna personas: from cheesy r&b-ish pop, to sexually raw, to old holywood glamour, to sucker mum, and she's succeeded in all of those, without lookink like a Madonna copycat at all. She has a promising career ahead of her and I think we'll be seeing a lot of her in the next 15 years. As for Kylie, she too is a queen in her own right... no need to say more :D |
| Posted By: John Posted On: June 19th Views: 1117 | Let's see... *Britney, Christina, Jessica and P!nk were all manufactured by their respective record companies, none of them worked hard to become the huge stars (not including that Simpsh*t girl) they are now. So these girls “owe” their careers to no one but the crafty people at Jive, RCA, Columbia and LaFace (and Disney Channel) that believed in their artistic value; without their support they would’ve had a hard time becoming famous (especially Jessica, she really s*cks. Maybe not Christina, her voice’s awesome, she would’ve pulled through; and maybe not P!nk either, she simply rules; and Britney, well…) *What about Shakira, does she “owe” M anything? Some of Shakira’s biggest musical influences are Soda Estereo and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs to name a few. Do you, mad-eyes team, honestly believe that Pies Descalzos was inspired by Holiday? Furthermore, she does “owe” her international career success to Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez *Gwen has always been a leading woman on her own way. She along with her own band achieved great success in the mid 90’s by developing a new sound, pop-ska, certainly not based on the sound of the Erotica album; and they kept on rocking through the whole decade without “owing” anything to anybody. They’re currently touring the US and their new album will be out next year. So I think it’s unfair to call Gwen a Madonna wannabe based only on her solo career and the fact that she’s into reinventing her image and music, because that is something she’s been doing with her band for the last 17 years. So you guys include Tony Kanal in the poll *Rihanna? Why not Beyoncé? You guys included her in the poll just because of her superstar status right? She’s got nothing to do with M, maybe with MC *What’s Paula doing in the poll? She isn’t even that important in pop music to care about her at all. Her new album is coming out soon, I know, but seriously Paula Abdul is a choice? *Kylie unfortunately emerged six years later than Madonna but undoubtedly she’s made a name for her and doesn’t “owe” her career to anyone but herself, she simply came on the scene a little late. She’s the greatest Aussie singer ever *About GaGa, just listen to The Fame, followed by GHV2 and Ultimate Kylie, and you’ll find out where her inspiration came from *What about Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson, both of them love Madonna. Katy sang Like a Virgin live on the 2007 MTV VMAs and Kelly sang Express Yourself on her audition for AI. Whatever, I would have bashed their inclusion in the poll anyway |
| Posted By: Braden Posted On: June 18th Views: 1241 | Britney? I don't think so It's tough to pick just one, because all of the ladies on the list can be traced back to Madonna somehow. I know most people are probably going to choose Britney, but if you think about it, there really isn't that much in common between the two. The biggest being that Madonna is a product of no one but herself, and Britney started out as a manufactured product put together by record producers and managers. Over the years Madonna has evolved and changed with the times, whereas Britney keeps recycling the same generic bubblegum pop that doesn't fly as well when you're pushing 30. Sure, Madonna has certainly stirred up her share of controversy, but it has always been because she's had something to say that might be provocative and confrontational, but she's always stuck to her guns. The only reason people pay attention to Britney anymore is to laugh at the trainwreck her personal life has become. I feel if Britney really were trying to emulate MAdonna as much as she claims, then she would be a much more self-sufficient, mature adult than she really is. As for this poll, I'm actually going to vote for Lady Gaga. Even though she only has one album to credit so far, here's this young woman, who's not especially pretty, who writes her own music and has a very unique sense of fashion and is interested in pushing people's buttons. Sound familiar? I do think Gaga's image is a little more self-contrived than Madonna's, but like I said, even though she's relatively new to the scene, I already see more parallels between her and Madonna than I ever did between Britney and Madonna. But ask me again in 10 years and we'll see if this theory still holds. |
