|the ultimate sacrifice|
regardless of our politics or our beliefs, we need to stand behind the troops that are there in iraq, afghanistan, and elswhere around the world.
i gave five years of my life to the united states army. i'd like to look back on my sacrifice and think that i served my nation and helped in some small way to make sure that my daughters can grow up with the freedom that i had.
i didn't fight in the war, but i would have gone willingly, and died if necessary. soldiers fight and soldiers die. that's the ultimate sacrifice that you can make, for your family and for your country.
when my father returned from vietnam, people were spitting at him as he stepped off the airplane. he spent 13 months in a jungle on the other side of the planet avoiding landmines and snipers, just to be spit on when he came home. i'll bet he felt like his sacrifice was wasted.
i don't want to feel like mine was wasted. i'll also bet that the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice don't want to feel like theirs was wasted either.
we have the right to agree or disagree about how just this war is. we have that right because of the sacrifices our fighting men and women have made. don't trivialize the sacrifies that our mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters are making to keep us safe and free.
