Many nations in the world are "free," per say, we're not the only one. And freedom is all about definition. Because we are denied certain rights (the right to use drugs, the laws against prostitution) this is actually taking our freedoms away. Even if you DON'T support drug use and prostitution, it should still be legalized and regulated, it's your own effing body, not the stupid government's.

The easiest way to control someone is to have them be controlled voluntarily. You constantly tell the masses they are free and eventually most will believe it. What exactly is it you are free to do that other countries cannot?
Posted By: BritishChick Posted On: Sep 11, 2006 Views: 1295	RE: "Freedom" Tower well...we can stand on soap boxes and...um...talk at people...? however, some places in china only allow couples to have one child and most couples want boys so baby girls are left to die...women here can wear what they want...our taxes are wasted in some respects but not as much as the money made off of the workers backs in Africa... freedom is a loose term for many things. i have the right to procreate at will (although thats not always a good thing) i have the freedom to do many more things than many more people in the world do but you all make very valid points. all im saying is it could be alot worse.

To me it's reminiscent of old school propaganda, the type of strategy not unlike those used by the NAZI party and Soviet Prolitariat, to be cliche in my examples. Still, what a cheesy name, carrying with it that sci-fi element.

If they made drugs and prostitution legal, they lose the money they make off of punishing people for doing it. Everything in the goverment has NOTHING to do with being in control of your body...it has to do with taking your money. It's why governments exist, to look out for the health and opulence of the country that imstituted it. Of course, governments can get out of control, but if enough people work to effect a change in the policy of a government, it will happen, reflecting on the desire of the majority of the populace, if people just sit by and complain, the government will continue to act as an independent body, working according to its own ends and whatever ends maintain the comfortable level of order.

Posted By: Posted On: Sep 13, 2006 Views: 1227	RE: "Freedom" Tower I think some ways to solve the problem are... 1. make election day a holiday, like in other countries 2. make voting mandatory or offer a tax break or other incentive for voting 3. regulate media and advertising for election campaigns at a national and statewide level, so that every candidate gets equal coverage 4. change the electoral college so that it accurately reflects each state's population 5. have general election results be revealed at the same time Can't think of any more right now... none of it will ever happen anyway, we're screwed.
