beauty pageants

Beauty comes from within and it is full time judges evaluate contestants fairly and not just based on outward features, and on the topic of who should represent jamaica......it does not matter if you are black or white......as long as you are a true jamaican at heart and have the tools to be a good embassador for our country then thats all that really matters.

Choosing Miss Jamaica

Our national motto is "Out Of Many One People." That means that we see Black, White, Chinese, Indian, Mulatto or for that matter anything we can call a human being as one of us. Calling Jamaica a black country is as bad as those who want to choose a Miss Jamaica because she is Caucasian. This attitude is supporting the doctrine of some failed politicians of the not very distant past who attempted to use racism and class as a distraction to cover their incompetence. If we go back in history we could easily say that Jamaica is an Arawak country and the rest of us are all squatters. Let us show maturity and not lower the values of our forefathers by getting involved in reverse racism. I am black.

Beauty queen Jamaica

When i saw the above poll that race should not matter when they are choosing a beauty queen from jamica. This enraged me!!. The last time i check jamaica was black nation and continue to be that. So whoever represent you should also reflect the true esssence of jamaica our people and our blackness.I am apolled, that people from jamaica would endorse anything less. Do you know whatit is like living in a "white man'world? I am a black canadian and i m yet to see a black beauty queen representing canada even though i am third generation canadian. So we should stare away from the legacy of colonization free our self from mental slavery and and embrace what is right for jamaica which is to showcase a woman with our afrocentic features which highlights our ideal of beauty. So I do not bleive a white, chinese, or south asian woman(indian) should represent jamiaca for any beauty contest. If we do we should ask out selves what role did there ancestors played in build Jamaica to this day? Jamaica is a majority black nation and should remain that way.

Beauty Queen

Race should not be a factor in selecting a so called beauty queen to represent Jamiaica. Its time Jamaicans emacipate themselves from mental slavery - thinking light skin women are pretier than darker skin women - hence the foolishness about browing causing young girls to bleach their skin. By the time some of these brownings reach 30 they look old. Black dont crack.

Color shouldn't have an importance

Color is insignificant because we were all created equally in God's sight.Color doesn't define "beauty" .True beauty lies within and not on the external, the outside is just to "make-up".It's full time we start assessing individuals base on their character and not the shade of their skin.

Beauty Contens

Our Motto is "Out of Many One People". So race can represent Jamaica. We are too caught up with race. We have Chinese, Indian, white, black, Hispanic, Syrian, and others of middle eastern descent living in Jamaica and any one from these group can represent us.

in this day and age colour still matter?

I am 55 yr old and light skinned. I was treated very differently by my own family as i have very light skin from the rest...we are just human and racism is in all and every where on this planet...if we were all the same shade it would be something else...like...

Is this question for real ???

If colour were a criteria for these contests, they would be considered racist. In a modern day and age, beauty is considered to be more than skin deep.

Qualities such as; character, talent, and academic achievement, would be what decent people would expect, more than emphasis on physical, and outward beauty.

Beauty pageants and skin colour.

I think that the reason most light skin women are chosen because on an international level they won't choose they dark skin girl because they are so darn rasist. Because we Jamaicans want to win the pageant we choose the light skin.
So its not a matter of prejudice against our own people, its just that the international levels are all rasist to dark skin girls.

SHOULD MORE COLOURD LADIES ENTER MISS JAMAICA PAJE

If it's a colour issue soley i dont think so because to be a jaamaican colour is not a factor therefore it should not dictate weather or not one should be legible to enter the pajent and also if more darker coloured YOUNG LADIED were entering it would help to build the self esteem of others of the same colour. from a self esteem point of view, some jamaicans are facing a serious self esteem problem as it relates to being high coloured or else so much jamaicans would not be bleaching.

Beauty contestants

What kinda backward old-fashioned question is this? Aren't we in the year 2009?

Plus poor people have no time to think about entering these contests!

Need time and money.

MISS JAMAICA

FIRST OF HALL THERE SHOULD BE SOME WAY TO HAVE ALL JAMAICAN YOUNG LADIES GET TO KNOW WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA TO BE ABLE TO ENTER THE MISS JAMAICA WORLD CONTEST. THEN LET THE CHIP FALL WHERE THEY MAY....... TO ME IF MORE DARKER AND LOWER CLASS JAMAICAN YOUNG WOMAN KNOW WHAT THE CRITERIA ARE . THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE A MORE INFORMED DECISION TO TAKE PART AND YOU PROBABLY HAVE MORE DARKER SKIN YOUNG WOMEN TAKE PART.
